This is popular during the holy week as they hold an annual event called Katkat-Sakripisyo. It's no easy feat climbing to the top but it's very rewarding, good luck to your trembling knees when it's time to go down the steep steps though.. I climbed to the peak twice and stayed overnight both times. The view during early morning was surreal, you can see that half of the sky was lit by the sun and the other half was still a bit dark and the moon still visible. I'd love to come back to this place, preferably when it isn't so crowded.

The 3003 has a clean area, all the steps are kept clean and not slippery.
The 14 stations of Way of the Cross is in-between steps. What is good is that there are short lanes to break the steps and give the guests some rest from climbing. The steps a also wide and safe with hand rails.

The concrete steps wind along a tunnel of verdant trees leading the visitors to a panoramic vista of sky, plains and sea horizons. Markers depicting the 14 Stations of the Cross punctuate the way up. During Lenten Season, thousands of people come to the place to participate in the Katkat Sakripisyo, a religious re-enactment of Jesus Christ's passion, suffering and death through the traditional Way of the Cross.

I hiked/walked these steps for fun and pleasure. It is a must see/try when in Dipolog City. Just remember it is a strenuous hike up these steps, but there are numerous resting spots. Great views and a sense of accomplishment when completed.

There are indeed 3,003 concrete steps all the way up Linabo Peak. Along the way are 16 stations of the cross depicting scenes from the life of Jesus. The steps are hugely popular during Holy week, when thousands of locals make the climb up. The steps are quite busy year-round - there's even an elementary school two thirds of the way up! Views from the top are awesome, but we started from the bottom too late in the afternoon; dusk was falling as we arrived on top. Best to start off very early in the morning, at first light, when it's cooler. Better still would be to climb up in the afternoon and camp on top; come down the next morning. You could easily get some locals to carry your equipment! Bring plent of drinking water with you.

This is not really a must-see ecotourism destination in Dipolog. This is only for the very healthy, good pair of lungs, non-smokers and for people with a strong heart. But for the fundamentalist Catholics this 3,0003-step concrete stairway is a pilgrimage venue for the presence of the 14 stations of the Cross. Parishioners walk up the steps during the Holy Week for the community's Katkat Sakripisyo church event.
I suggest you make first a tour to Dapitan and Dipolog to familiarize the local terrain.Travel up to the Sungkilaw Falls in Diwan, the airport to the outskirts of Dapitan..Thus make the climb as your last destination. In so doing, when you are already at the top, you can easily identify landmarks in Dipolog like the boulevard, airport, river, subdivisions, highways, bridges and highways. From the peak you have a 360-degree view of the twin cities. I suggest you start your climb early morning, around 6 am on a weekend so by 9 am you would reach the top where telcos and national TV stations have their repeater antennas.
Bring bottles of water and food since there are no restaurants there. A consolation is that there are stores at the foot and near the peak in the vicinity of the Lugdungan elementary school. But bring along your garbage after your picnic at the top.
My caution is do not attempt to run up or down the steps since its higher altitude would burden your lungs. Second, it could injure your knees. It's even harder to walk down than to walk up the stairway.A day or two before you climb try to do some exercises for your legs and waists so that after the climb you would not be injured.
But if you no other place to visit in Dipolog then you may savor the scenery from the top.
