After the north Breton coast in 2015 and the Belle Ile-Houat-Hoedic trip in 2016, this summer we spent another week with Caminokayak on their Tro Vale en Aven trip. And, once again, we were absolutely delighted.
The seven-day expedition took us from the coast near Concarneau to the beautiful Glénans Islands. From there, we headed back to the mainland and up the river to the very touristy town of Pont Aven before following the coast to the island of Groix that we circumnavigated before returning to the company's base in Ploemeur. In all, around 120 km in a week marked by the typical Breton mix of brilliant sunshine and rain showers, along with force 4 to 5 winds one day and the added bonus of two close encounters with dolphins. We bivouacked on some incredible beaches, met some great people and, all in all, had a fantastic week.
The Breton coast is perfect for sea-kayaking and Vincent Achard is the guy to guide you there, or if not Vincent, his excellent colleague Mickaël. The Caminokayak team (with Vincent's wife Laure devising the menus) is a true winner - incredibly professional, dynamic, highly security-conscious, reassuring in choppy seas, friendly, and with a great sense of humour. They use first-class kayaking gear and know this incredible coast like the back of their hands. I've done sea-kayaking in a number of countries and met some really great guides. The Caminokayak team are up there among the best. We'll definitely be returning to do another trip with them.

We spent 5 days with Vincent and a small group on the intermediate sea kayaking course. This was made up of 3 days of technical skills training then a 2-day circumnavigation of the beautiful Ile de Groix, during which we had plenty of opportunity to put our skills to good use.
Vincent is a fantastic teacher and guide, very friendly and a great cook. There were some scary moments paddling in the big waves, but Vincent was always nearby providing encouragement and a smile just at the right time.
The equipment provided is great quality, teaching is brilliant, and adapted to suit individual levels, lots of focus on safety as well as the fun stuff like surfing and rock hopping.
Lunches were excellent - they needed to be with all the paddling we did!
I'd highly recommend Camino Kayak, and look forward to returning to Brittany for another trip with them.
