A surprisingly good day trip which we both really enjoyed. Amazing to see this narrow track railway build by one man over twenty kids years. The journey up to ‘eyefull tower’ takes 30 minutes and then you have 15 minutes to enjoy the views before making the return journey on the same track.

The views from the top were gorgeous.

Unlike other contributors below, we had no problem hearing the commentary from the driver about this railway built by Barrie Brickell. He constructed 3km of track, initially to collect the clay and wood from the hill to create his pottery.

The site is also undertaking a reforestation project to introduce local trees back to the hillside which is very admirable.

There are toilets at the ground station and also up the top at eyefull tower. There’s also a small coffee shop offering cakes and pizza by the ticket office.

We were disappointed that we couldn’t hear the commentary because (as others have said) the engine noise drowned it out. So we missed a lot of information about the place.

This was a fascinating trip with an excellent guide. You really fell like you are riding through native forest. It just needs a thousand years for the kiari tres to grow

Really enjoyed the efforts of one man's labours to construct a small guage trail line to the top of the hill. Great engineering and an informative driver made for a great ride. Also, and what a fantastic view at the top.
Great experience for all ages

I have been to Driving Creek Railway several times with friends, family, overseas visitors.
I always tell the history of how the pottery and railways started. Met Barry several times in the pottery shop.
This time we were very disappointed as Barry's name was not mentioned at all,no stories shared, the 2 ladies I was with had not been before and were amazed no history was shared. It had a very strange feeling as if some thing was being hidden since Barry died. Re the property.
There are some tattered photos on the table in the lookout but that's about it.

Excellent experience on Barry Brickell’s ‘hand made’ narrow gauge railway to Eyefull tower. Comfortable ride with informative commentary.
Wonderful to see all the kauri and other plantings.

Can’t rate it high enough.
The train staff were excellent and had a wealth of knowledge on the location and surroundings.

The train ride is extraordinary considering how and when it was built. It’s an absolute sight to see and a must do.

The location also has pottery classes and zip line tour. We missed the zip line but hearing the staff with another group they seemed to have a blast and sounded like the staff did a fantastic job.

Over all great place to visit

Beautiful surroundings on a very cute and quirky train trip past lots of randomly placed pottery and strategically placed bottles. You can feel the love that it was built from
