The Engelsbrunnen was created in 1574 as a municipal draw well by master builder Michael Matzer and sculptor Mathes Vogel. Two angels carry the coat of arms of the county. Particularly interesting is the assignment of secular figures (mayor, councilor, Stadtbaumeiser, artist) to the then...More

This is a strange little well that has some unusual "angels", it's quite a unique little piece and was apparently created in 1574 so it's stood the test of time quite well. The little figures are quite interesting to look at. It's positioned between the...More

This1574 town well is not like others that I have seen. It gets its name from the two angels at the top who hold the town's coat of arms. There are also statues of eight men who were important in the town's history.

This is a beautiful old well in Wertheim. It's amazing that it's in it current condition considering its more than 400 years old.

Once used as a watering hole for the townspeople, now a photo stop for tourists, this red stone well, built in 1574, had its own style from other town wells that I have seen. It is known as Engelsbrunnen because of the 2 angels on...More

This rather intricate fountain was not spouting water when we were in the village. It has several figures including a couple of Angels at the top, each carrying Coats of Arms. Stop and see intricate it is.

Get someone to tell the story of the fountain and its figures. The soft red stone is odd but the back story is great. It was partially obscured by Christmas market stalls but you could get up close to see the detail of the fountain...More

This "Angel fountain" in 1574 was created as urban water source (architect Michael Matzer and sculptor Mathes Vogel). Two Angels bear the Earl‘s society coat of arms, further secular figures (shire reeve, Councillor, Stadtbaumeister, artists), planets with their zodiac (known in that perticular period): Saturn,...More
