We visited the church during a walk around Sanary and it was just beautiful inside. We were really surprised to see the lovely frescoes and the stained glass windows, as we were not expecting them.
We would not have made a detour to see this church, but it was very interesting to pop into on our walk.

We ducked into this church hoping to find some shade on a blazing hot day.

In addition to shelter from the sun, we found a beautiful array of byzantine-style frescoes that took our breath away. The ceiling paintings document the creation myth from the book of Genesis. It is also interesting to find Old Testament figures such as Abraham and Moses among the Catholic saints and saviors.

The church organ is also a thing of grated beauty.

We spent a long time exploring this small church and left feeling refreshed in every sense of the word.

I would not have made a special trip to Sanary just to see the church but it was surprisingly beautiful inside. Lots of colourful murals which gave it a very happy feel. Some nice stained glass windows as well. Pure roman architecture in style. Very enjoyable 10 minutes or so.

I'm a little baffled by all of the glowing reviews. In my opinion, this church did not deserve the 45-minute trip that we made to see it. Not great art, not great architecture.

Our visit was made better by the information presented on plaques around Sanary about the city's role as a refuge for German and Austrian Jewish writers and thinkers in the 1930s and 1940s. Also, there's a nice carousel at the waterfront, near the parking lot. Also, you can buy ice cream at numerous places near the church.

One of the prettiest churches in the Var region. The murals painted on the inside are simple but captivating. As an amateur photographer this church never fails to disappoint and this is my third visit to Sanary. Three times a week on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in July & August there are guided visits. Worth wandering around at night as the bell tower is illuminated on the outside.

Third visit to Sanary and this church was top of my list to re-visit, the people are very welcoming and the modern frescoes of Eastern tradition are just fantastic. It's open night and day to visitors plus you can drop in to a service. This year we are staying just behind the church and can hear the Sunday service quite clearly which is beautiful. As I'm Baptist not Catholic I have never taken part in a service but feel sure you would be warmly welcomed. I love just sitting in here and simply feel in God's presence, sometimes I pray but mostly I just sit or light a candle.

Lovely little church that was restored in 2000, with beautiful Orthodox Christian inspired Frescoes. The bell tower can be seen from sea and houses an ancient bell from 1734. Worth stopping in to visit.

If you like dropping in on old churches and basilicas like I do then this one is worth a peek. Not as ornate as some but not a bad way to spend a few mins while you are in port. I liked the murals on the ceiling depicting biblical scenes.

When you walk through the doors you'll be surprised at the interior design, structure and frescos. Definately worth stopping by for a look-see (and a prayer).
