I hiked from Metzeral railway station up to Hohneck via Lac de Fischboedle, Lac de Schiessrothried and Wormsel in 2.5 hours with 950m elevation gain, then back down via Schaeferthal. So, suitable as a day hike. Very good view all around from the peak, though...More

Great views for little effort if you park at the top! Even letting the car do most of the hard work, we had a good walk around the summit area and down to a couple of the nearby cols. The views to the valleys in...More

Third highest summit of the Vosges Mountains, the Hohneck is an amazing place from where you can take a lot of different trails (like the Sentier des Roches, a must-do in the area). You can stop for a drink or some food at the refuge...More

This place is just wonderful for trekking or simply a nice walk. The view is awesome. You can go there walking, by bike, by car, horse...I really recommend this place If you are lucky, you'll see a chamois.

Sunny and warmish on the wine route but cold and windy at 4000ft plus. Great view out covering other peaks and the valleys stretching out towards the Rhine. Nice drive up from Munster and then the single track road from the main road.

The Hohneck is the third highest summit of the Vosges Mountains and the highest point of Lorraine. A mandatory stop based on the Michelin guide book. The road to the hut on the summit is a twisting one lane paved "path". Watch for oncoming cars...More

Stunning view over the fog covered Rhine valley to the Schwarzwald mountain range in the East and the Alps in the South. In the West you can divine the fog rising over the Mosel valley.

We hiked here twice, both during the winter when there was still snow. Snowshoes are recommended then, and in some places crampons may be required (although we avoided those routes). The scenery is beautiful and its worth the up-hill walk.

Second time we came to this skiing area. With only a little more than 20 km of slopes it is a small area, but nice enough for 1 or 2 days. During weekends (and holidays) it gets too crowded with long queues, so if you...More
