Beautiful place and well worth a visit when in the old town but slightly ruined by the profusion of expensive but naff restaurants and their very pushy touts trying to get you to eat/drink in their overpriced establishments.

I had the pleasure of visiting Rhodes in Sept., the crowds were low and is was easy to get around. Plenty of restaurants in the sqaure. I had no encounters with touts. But I did meet a lot of nice locals.

The square is really charming. Its one of the best places to rest a bit. Nothing special to do here, but if I would want to Sit down for a meal and have a Nice view it would be there.

Plateia Ippokratous (Hippocrates Square) is THE focal point for all tourist activity in the Old Town. It *is* atmospheric and without the crowds could even be called pretty, but it is over-subscribed to. It is a confusing jungle of 'Greek Steak Houses', pizzerias and pasta...More

I say run because the restaurants around the Platia are manned by some seriously talented people who are trying to get you into the various establishments. Watching the guys is a lesson in not ever giving up, we had a ball simply sitting on the...More

The only remaining evidence of the Castellania, within this UNESCO World Heritage Site....but you will be pressed to find it, as the entire focus is to get you on you jaunt down Sokratous Street, the most commercial street on the island.
