Its a long trip from Surigao City, at least 8 hrs private vehicle ride. Maybe more if you take a bus. I suggest you bring your own vehicle because along the way, you will find cheap foods, fruits.
The Shrine is in Opol area, there are a lot of pension house in the area so if you plan to take overnight there then its fine as pensionne houses ranges from 280/6hrs. Ours since we have small children with us we booked for 24hrs at 700pesos (homewood pension house).
If you want to visit the shrine and attend the mass, better go on wednesdays and sundays as they have 4 masses. The rest of the days , mass ends at 7am.
Bring a cap, umbrella or any shade as its quite hot.

Our main purpose of going to Misamis Oriental is to visit the Divine Mercy Hills. We went by ourselves and we don’t know of anyone living in the province. We landed on Dec 26, 2013 on a sunny day. Basically the weather of Misamis, being situated on the southern part of the Phils has neutral weather. There is a tourist desk you can ask upon which is very helpful and informative, especially for those going there without any friends or relatives like us. You can find yellow taxis which have tested reliable meters but are much expensive. There are those ordinary taxis which offers a low price. It took us almost 1.5 hours to reach El Salvador City from Laguindingan International Airport where we landed. You can ride thru a taxi, service, or habal-habal to go to Divine Mercy Hills.
The city serves as a pilgrimage site for the Divine Mercy devotees, that is why it is also called "The City of Mercy" or "City of The Saviour". Down the hill, we found 2 pilgrimage houses which cost P150 for whole day or for whole night per person, which is a good rate. It is located in between mountains. The pilgrimage houses though are complete with the basic things you will need. A strict attire code is imposed to visitors who want to climb up the Divine Mercy Shrine. Those in shorts and tight-fitting pants are required to wear a sarong lent by the shrine’s administration office. There is a spring water flowing in the middle of the hill which anyone can drink and is believed to have healing powers. As you start the pilgrimage up the hill, there will be prayer, orientation, and Eucharist masses which are scheduled. Once you passed through this, you will be given a gate pass to go up the 50-foot statue of the Divine Mercy Christ, which is the biggest in Asia. No umbrellas or cameras are allowed. The climb towards the 50-foot Christ can be stiff and takes about 100 steps, a fair warning to those who are not physically fit. The climb leads you toward the heart of Jesus, which is the Blessed Sacrament. The reward of reaching the top, however, includes a breathtaking view of Macajalar Bay. Definitely a place of peaceful prayer, sacrifice, and worship. Different kinds of souvenir items are available down the hill.

Since this is a conservative place, I highly recommend wearing long skirts or loose pants and shirts or blouses that don't show off your arms or cleavage. Otherwise, you will need to borrow something to cover up. From Laguindingan airport, you can ride a van to El Salvador for P100. You can tell the driver you're headed for Divine Mercy Hills so he'll know where to stop. You can then ride a motorcycle to Divine Mercy Hills. It's P10 per person but I went solo so I paid P20 for one way and another P20 back to the stop. I recommend Kuya Dodong 0926 981 6119. But don't worry if he's not available. There are other motorcycle drivers waiting for passengers there.

This is a very special place to reflect on your blessings. There is a dress code and the women must wear long skirts and everyone is asked to keep silence. There are many places to pray and also a chapel that holds Mass. It's also a very beautiful place. For example, the walls along the stairs up to the statue are built using pink coral blocks. There is also a place to drink spring water that has a reputation for healing spiritual wounds.

For the devote Catholics, this place will be a very worthwhile visit. Access to the place can be through private or rented vehicles or walking (for you long winded types).
Once at the entrance women are strictly required to wear a long skirt to enter. Skimpy outfits will also be covered with other apparel. The area consists of a few buildings (church, convent, souvenir shops, vigil areas, etc.). The best part of the place is a large garden wherein a huge statue of Jesus Christ is located at the edge near the church. You can climb the stairs up to the statue but getting to the heart of it requires a priest. Boisterous antics are a no no in this place as masses are scheduled regularly in the church. For those who are hungry and thirsty (not in spirit), there is a canteen near the side of the church offering refreshments and snacks, and a souvenir shop near it for those who want to buy blessed items.
All in all, this is a place where you can get a semblance of quiet away from civilization.

First off this place is pretty conservative so ladies with skirts or shorts needs to borrow a cloth from the desks around the entrance to cover their legs. Next, one must bring a small water container as they have an area where one could acquire water that is believed to heal ailments and sickness. I had to buy a small water bottle from a near store to bring some water back home (never to bad to have faith on something). We went there at noon so we could not have a tour at the heart of Jesus. The tour was only until 11AM in the morning and will resume later in the afternoon. Place is pretty beautiful. They have a wide variety of flowers just below the statue and you could really appreciate the view.

Good evening! How to make reservation with Divine Mercy Pilgrimage House. We will go there on the 18th of July, 2019.
Thank you.

1. My family of 8 members would like to go to the Divine Mercy Hill sometime in June 2018. Is the weather very hot or very cold? Do we have to stay there for 2 nights or more?
2. Besides the Divine Mercy Hill pilgrimage, any advice to visit any place of interest?
Written March 21, 2018
At the foot of the hill, there are many pilgrim houses at low rates. Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. I recommend Holy Queen Pilgrim's House just a few meters away at the entrance of the Divine Mercy Hill.
