Tourist shops everywhere
Sep 2021 • Couples
The center is packed with souvenir shops. All authenticity is gone here. Really a shame. In Lecce and Bari they were much better able to keep some of the old atmosphere intact.

What a great old town
Aug 2020
We stayed in the south for a few nights. Only 30' aways was Gallipoli, so we thought we should check this old town out.

And what a great visit it turned out to be. Parked our car not far from the old town and crossed the bridge leading to the Centro Storico. The impressive Castello welcomes you when you enter this amazing historic town.
Take the Via Antoniette de Pace or the smaller Via XXIV Maggio and head to the impressive Duomo, the Basilica Concattedrale di Sant'Agata Vergine e Martire. The streets and lanes are quite narrow, so you have to step back a bit to appreciate the beauty of the Duomo.

Countless shops and restaurants can be found. It's sure worth to get lost a bit in this maze - especially when you head a bit to the western part of the old town. That's where many locals have their homes. Less tourists, but just fun to wander the small streets.

Also nice to walk around this peninsula. Amazing ocean views with the bluest and greenest water you could think of. Some good restaurants with ocean views (try the Trattoria Scoglio delle Sirene). Besides the big sights, the whole old town itself is a sight of its own. We loved it. Fantastic town, sure well worth a (longer) drive.

Gallipoli is a magical town that makes you feel like you have entered history. The beaches are beautiful and the people are friendly.

Lunch stop and wandering!

Super easy to park by the port as soon as you cross over to the old part of the town. We took a wander around the sea wall and lovely views of the sea.

Beautiful historic town with lovely beaches

We stopped for lunch in Gallipoli (as you do) on our way south on a cycling trip. What a spectacular historic, nautical, town- surrounded by the sea and full of life and lovely places to eat and have coffee. We stayed longer than we had planned.

Beautiful Sea Views
Oct 2019
Rocky limestone cliffs surround this beautiful fishing village. Easy walking around, beautiful sandy beach and castle make up the old part of Gallipoli.

Very nice houses, lots of churches and beautiful little streets. Typically italian style. Some good restaurants ad huge sunset bars (very windy).

Day Trip
Sep 2019 • Couples
We drove across from Lecce which only takes half an hour or so. Really nice little fortress town. Absolutely stacks of bars and restaurants here. There are lots around the perimeter of the town that have elevated sea views. Some nice little narrow streets to walk round too. Again lots of restaurants.
Fish is the order of the day here.
There is a small beach in the town and the sea is stunning.
Take your trunks!
