We turned up at their office on a Sunday morning without any pre booking (further to a recommendation from our hotel). They accommodated us within 30 mins - the car was in good condition, cost was reasonable and we had no issues at all. Driving in Dumaguete and whereabouts was fairly easy, and we managed to visit all the sites that we were interested in without paying a fortune for private transfers.

Although I've got a Philippine driver's license, we decided to set up an Out-of-Town Car & Driver hire for July 7 up to Lake Balinsasayao. Nice not to have to worry about 3rd-party liability, collision insurance, parking, etc.Tried through online reservation service, but problems with the credit card verification. Three days before, we went to their office in Dumaguete (just west from Lee Hypermart) and met James. Fantastic. He set up the reservation, texted us the night before with a friendly reminder, and was at the pick-up point 15 minutes early on a Sunday morning. Safe is the word and comfortable as well. James was very accommodating, pulling the car to the side whenever we asked to get photographs, see interesting sights along the way, and even stopping by a street market on the way through Sibulan. A great experience and a great ride with James in Dumaguete.

This is my second time to rent from Safe Ride. My first one is in Cebu last month. I rented a sub-compact vehicle since I am traveling solo and only for a weekend adventure. I want to go to a lot of places at in a limited time at my convenience and renting a car is the best way to go. Jay-R is the one that reached out to me from Safe Ride a couple of days before my trip. He told me that the sub-compact A/T is not available. He asked me if I want to change it to M/T. I am not comfortable using M/T and I know I am not going to do city driving only. I told him that I am not comfortable and I did not get a response until the day of my flight. When I got to Dumaguete, he met with me at the airport since my request to have the car by then. I am already starting to worry since I did not get a confirmation prior to my arrival about the car. To my surprise he said that he made a way to have an A/T be available for my use. Because of these actions by Jay-R and all other employees behind Safe Ride, you got a very loyal customer. Although he is not the one who picked up the car, I was still given very good customer service. In return, I am recommending your company to my friends and colleagues who will visit Cebu or Dumaguete. I know they will be taken cared off like I did.

I couldn’t find the delivery guy at the airport because he wasn’t holding up a sign with my name on it and I had to call him long distance with my US number. Any extra small service they wanted to charge 300 pesos. My hotel is only 2 km to the airport and they wanted to charge 300 pesos to pick up the car from the hotel. I asked if I could return the car half hour later and they wanted to charge 300 pesos per hour. This company does not care about customer service and if you message them asking to negotiate the other options they don’t reply. Safe ride does not fit the definition of the land of friendly people. Do not use this company for car rental, they are so unaccommodating and just want to charge foreigners for everything.
Also the car they gave me the windshield was scratched and dirty that I couldn’t see through it very well, especially at night and it couldn’t be cleaned with the wipers.

Prices were very reasonable upfront. But BEWARE! I forgot to top off the tank with gas and was charged a HUGE amount! Also, I was WAY overcharged for a small dent and scratches incurred when I backed into a pole at a very low speed. Staff was very cold, rude, and unwilling to negotiate. Bottom line: they lure you in with lower prices, but they get you in the end.

I took their discounted 7 day offer, I needed the car for 8 so they gave me a day free.
But I'm just not impressed getting a car other than what I had booked.
There is a small fee for pick up and drop off at the airport which is handy.
Car was given to me with only 2 bars of fuel, this is just a low con in my books as most travelers would be handing the car back with extra fuel in it... NOT IMPRESSED! (as did we)
We were charged 300 peso for a small scuff on a heavily dented/scrathed car, not a lot to pay,... but the extra fuel (800-1000 peso worth) wasn't taken into consideration.
I won't be using you guys again.

Safe Car Rentals was the only trustworthy looking webpage for selvdriving car rental in Dumaguete. We booked online and sent them the requested drivers license. A couple of days later, I get an email requesting me to send the drivers license again together with a passport and transfer 20 % of the fee. No banking details were given and I didn't find anything on the homepage either. So I sent them a reply asking for how we can safely transfer the money. Never got an answer from them.
On the day of the booking start, we tried to find their car rental office for over an hour. No tricycle driver knew where it was, neither the locals and businesses on the street. That was maybe the weirdest thing of it all. I still don't know, where it was supposed to be, might as well have been a shag somewhere off the street.
After two very expensive phone calls, we got hold of one person at the car rental, saying, that they cancelled our booking because they never received my email. Nothing could be done after that and they never admitted their fault, even though I sent them the email again and made screenshots of the date, time and content of my reply. They didn't even send me a cancellation of our booking/reservation to notify me.
All in all a very disappointing experience, since our travel plans were completely messed up by not having a car to drive around.
I wouldn't recommend any foreigner to book their rental car with this company, since it doesn't provide secure payment upfront.

Hi klassizistisch,
We are very sorry for the inconvenience we have given to your vacation. We have a work flow that we need to follow. I admit that are system has flaws and we are working on it to better serve you. As of now we do not serve renters with no payment due to very many no show renters and that is not good for our business. We offer secure payment through PayPal. The link will be available after we confirm the rental.
As of now we are operating home base as trial run in Dumaguete and we are still looking for a good location to better serve you.
I have already talked with Jayr our assigned personnel in Dumaguete regarding the process.
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your most recent experience while using our services at Safe Ride Car Rental. We sincerely value your comments in our continuous effort to provide great service and wonderful experience.

A week before arrival, I called the Cebu Contact Person (Shaira) then was referred to the Dumaguete Contact Person (Jay-R) to inquire about car availability and rate. 4 days before arrival, I called the Dumaguete Contact Person (Jay-R) but got very confused because all the details already confirmed in the previous calls were now changed or different (rental rates discount rate due to low peak season, airport vehicle pickup).
To clarify the matter, I had to call Cebu Contact Person (Shaira) who after some wait called me to confirmed that the details of the previous arrangement was correct and that Jay-R was mistaken. This was followed by several more calls with Jay-R who seemingly needed more calls before finally settling on the original arrangements that we had agreed before. Finally, Jay-R asked me to go online to enter into their online system what we had agreed upon reasoning that this was the only way that I could get the car I was reserving (!).
As I had already given twice now all the details needed, I was startled why he would not do this himself and was asking me to do it. But after spending over two hours on the phone with jay-R, with Shaira, then with Jay-R again, I figured that it might indeed be easier and simpler to just enter the reservation details online as Jay-R never seemed to know what to do. I reasoned that perhaps there might be another person in the office who would know what to do and get the reservation done. I have rented cars in the US, Canada and Europe and never have I experienced the effort, difficulty, length of time, and aggravation simply to reserve a car for three days. Well, I finally got that done, I thought.
Perhaps I spoke too soon because when we arrived in Dunaguete, there was no one to meet us at the airport where I requested to pick up the vehicle. There was no car at the airport and my repeated calls to Jay-R went answered. After 30 minutes of calling, I decided that this was a complete waste of time and decided to look for another place to rent a car. That was perhaps the best decision I made on this matter because I found a much better vehicle that was leased at a much lower rate. Moreover, it was quick, easy and very pleasant transaction.
Almost an hour after arrival at the airport, I got a call from Jay-R. He sounded surprise that I called because he thought all along that I had cancelled the rental because he said he did not hear from me. I was stunned. Did he expect me to call him everyday to remind him about the rental again despite the hours already wasted and the booking I made online?
Rather than get all flustered, I simply said that I was already in a car and that I did not need their car rental anymore. This car rental company lost my rental business for 3-days on this trip, and the additional 7-days rental in October and 21 days rental in January. Their loss and not mine.
To prospective renters, there is a likelihood that you will experience the same difficulties and frustration I encountered (which is similar to the another reviewer) and after all that, you will have no vehicle to use upon you arrival. So if you pursue a car reservation with this company, I can only wish you good luck as you will very much need it!
