We climbed the second highest mountain in Negros Island! Our first stop was with the twin falls then we headed to our camp site which was in the Camp Rancho. The place was so nice and wide! We took a bath in the near river. The next morning we resumed our hike. We were able to stop at the sulfur vent (it was amazing!). Then we pitched out tent in front of Lake Nailig. We stop a bit to take our lunch then we resume hiking going to the peak. Sadly, when we arrived we weren't able to get some clearing due to bad weather. Anyways the hike was fun! 😊😊

We went with Chris after reading the reviews on here. He helped us sort everything and even picked us up for an early start. My girlfriend had to turn back early as it was going to be to much. I carried on with Chris and he showed me all the places of the trail. He was amazingly helpful and friendly. Speaks good English and knows the mountain inside and out.
This is quite a tough climb. So have a reasonable degree of fitness and don't carry a heavy pack like me.

I did the mount Talinis few weeks ago. Beginning in Casaroro falls entrance at 6:30 am and finishing in bediao - Dauin around 2pm. Really nice trek with so many things to see (already listed in other comments). For people who want to do it "easily", I suggest to do it in 2 or 3days. For the one who use to practise sports (running hiking cycling..) and want to be tired and like it, do it in one day. I personnaly enjoyed the challenge ;). I found an excellent guide called Chris. He can be fast or take the time if necessary. Really flexible and I had a really good feeling with him. Here is his contact : messenger : Glecerio Chris D. Gonzalez no.09460177884. He answers quickly. Enjoy !!!

I just did the one-day trek to Lake Nailig starting from Apolong Trail. It was very challenging. I strongly discourage you to do it in one day unless you are really fit. Most people do overnight trips to Talinis but I didn't have enough time.

The people I have met who did overnight trip really appreciated it. There are steep areas where you have to climb and it can be tricky if the trail is muddy and slippery, which was the case for me yesterday.

You can start from Apolong Trail, Valencia, or from Bidiao, in Dauin. Apparently the trail from Bidiao is steeper and more difficult, but shorter. You must pay an entrance fee (or park fee, whatever you call it) from Bidiao, but not from Apolong. For this reason, most people start from Apolong.

If you need a guide, I strongly suggest you to contact Chris Gonzalez. We is very fit, but will always wait for you. He is also a nice guy, very professional. It took me a lot of time to complete the trek because of the slippery trails. We came back late in the evening, when it was dark. He stopped frequently to show me the way with his flashlight and always made sure I was fine.
You can contact him at this number: 09460177884
Or via Messenger: Glecerio Chris D. Gonzalez.
He answers his messages quite fast.
You will certainly not regret hire him.

Have fun!

If your fitness level is not so trained, I recommend to do this tour in 3 days. Near the river, there is somebody living. He has a small open hut fo the night. Really wothwhile is the sulfur vent.

Mt. Talinis is a great nature trek in a rainforest and up to a crater and to the highest edge, we (2 persons) did it in 2 days and find the guide from Island Life Adventure – Habagat (tel. 63 920 908 4414)
and paid 5000 pesos per person, including transport, tent (it was not waterproof and we used all our raincoats and plastic bags to stay dry, fortunately the rain was short) and food. We were also asking for the guide from the Harolds Manison in Dumaguete but the guy we met there was not very good in English and explaining us a potentsial trek, alhough it was cheaper – 1600 per person (otherwise the Mansion is a good place to stay and start the trek or make diving, the price for double room was 800 pesos and was worth of the money). The hike was shorter than expected according to the guide. We were expected to hike for 6 hours but we did it within 4 hours, plus 1 hour to the top. The camp was settled at the lake in the crater. It was good to have a spare time and wonder around in this wonderful forest. Next morning we went to top in 30 minutes and came down along other trail for 6 hours. The trail is slippery in a while, some roots and trees you have to climb over or under. A real good hike in this respect!
The price was a bit expensive but I do not recommend to have a guide. Potentsially you need just a person who shows you the trail and takes care of the place for accommodation. If you are in a real hurry and are a good hiker, you could do it also on a day. But you miss a good night in rainforest and you should take your time! And maybe the guide is not quick enough as hiking/mountaineering on Negros is not very quick and they like to take brakes, and why not.

This was my first overnight jungle trek - and I was unprepared for how hard it would be! But we went with experienced guides (Yagum Yuman and Island Life) who never lost the trail (even though you might be wading through ferns taller than your head) and came prepared with food and shelter. It gets cold on top! But it is THE BEST way to experience Negros. A true Garden of Eden.

Chris guides this trek for 18yrs. very fit guy. knows the route inside out and the villagers along the trek. lots of knowledge. we chat everything under the sun. he is not pushy, followed my pace and gave me time for pictures.

2 routes available:
route 1 (loop): start at casaroro falls entrance, twin falls, kaipohan sulphur vents, lake nailig, summit, back to lake nailig, lake yagumyum, sulphur vents, return to entrance of casaroro falls.

route 2 (transverse): start at casaroro falls entrance, twin falls, kaipohan sulphur vents, lake nailig, summit, back to lake nailig, lake yagumyum, end at bidiao at dauin which is also at dauin geothermal exploration project.

trek from casaroro falls to summit is 10km. from summit to bidiao is 7km. althou the 7km seems shorter, it is not easy getting down as most of the rocks were covered with green moss and slippery tree roots.

trek is usually done in 2days where you camp at lake nailig. the temp at the lake can dip to 10degrees or lower. not wanting to subject myself to torture and bringing additional load, i opt for route 2, day hike, 2L water, packed lunch, wore a tshirt and shorts, trek shoes with good tracksion, good socks!, started at 6am. bring plaster in case of blisters or paste it over toes beforehand. wear long pants n long sleeves if you are afraid of getting cuts by tall grass or plants. there is no mosquito and buys but alot of spider webs. took me 4hrs from start to summit and 4hrs from summit to bidiao. i am a avid trekker, fit and my pace was fast with rest points while taking pics along the trek, the summit and a 15mins lunch. trekking permit is required for the trek and the route can be confusing for many as there were many routes on the mountain without signages. glad i hired a guide!

if you are trekking this for the first time, start early and expect double the time required. the steps up are very high and requires you holding to the roots to pull urself up and some crawling on all fours to squeeze your way under fallen trees.

His rates as of Feb 2019 (guide ratio 1:3):

overnight trek
p750/day (the guest bring food for themselves and for the guide. guest bring own camping equipments)
p850/day (the guest pay the guide to bring his own food. guest bring own camping equipments)

day trek
p1500 (the guest bring food for themselves and for the guide)
p1700 (the guest pay the guide to bring his own food)

*note that if you select route 2, you have to pay for the guide transportation back to valencia town for p350 (habal habal hire)

*note also you can rent camping equipments from chris at additional cost

contact him via facebook messenger, glecerio chris d. gonzalez. there are other guides available and could be found on tripadvisor.

I can strongly recommend him to everyone who wants to climb this mountain. He's very fit, talkative and doing everything to give his guests a great experience.

I paid 3500 pesos for an overnight trip including tent, food and transport to and from Dumaguete. Great man!

climbed Talinis in mid March which was supposed to be summer but we were unlucky and it rained for almost the entire 2 days it took us to ascend/descend the mountain including camping overnight at one of the 2 crater lakes.
stubborn cloud cover obscured what im sure would've been an amazing view of both the twin crater lakes and the view from the summit, I am quite fit and while I didn't find the climb too difficult personally I certainly wouldn't call it an easy climb especially in the muddy/slippery conditions we experienced during our climb. you must pay for a local guide before commencing your climb so don't bother arranging a guide elsewhere as you will still be obligated to employ one at the start of the trailhead and I should mention that our guide didn't speak one word of english, very frustrating for a guide who you are obliged to pay for. also the summit of the mountain is quoted as being 1906 metres above sea level but none of our gps devices read over 1800 metres not sure if it's been over quoted or our devices were not working correctly.
