The Belfry tower was a historic landmark in Dumaguete City. Built in 1811 as a watchtower of the city against pirates who were looking for slaves.
Belfry is towering above other structures in the area. It is located just beside St.Catherine Cathedral.
The belfry is seen easily because it is just along the street.

shameful lack of maintenance on this one, shameful!! looks like something will fall off any minute, surroundings are busy street corner and market, not very suitable for admiring anything but girls

Very historic spot! Loved the point that it is beside the church and just along the way.. Very easy to visit.. But no place to take a photo for a souvenir.

From afar, you can already see that the belfry needs renovation. I actually hoped to be able to go inside and get to the top but the door is closed and the stairs are obstructed. I do not know if there is another way in but I did not find one.
It is indeed unfortunate that it has been neglected. Such old and historical buildings should be renovated and restored.

Definately worth the visit when your in the area. Say a prayer, light a candle, or contemplate its historical significance to Dumaguete.

The condition of the belfry is quite dilapidated nowadays, although it still retains charm and adds a piece of history to Dumaguete and reminds you of the area's former Spanish ties.
The cathedral next to it is a work of art and still holds a lot of beauty. Quite a popular attraction in the area too, with locals and tourists alike visiting to pay their respects and take a few pictures.
The centre of Dumaguete needs sprucing up and a good clean really, as the university area and other parts away from the centre are beautiful.

To me, there is nothing special of this bell tower but it can serve as a very good landmark.
Opposite the bell tower is a small park and you can relax there.

You can't miss it, easy parking, lots of street vendors. Visit early morning or towards evening as it can be a Cement heater. If your looking for BPI ATM its just across the street heading north.

Ok, we saw it several times when we walked down the city streets. It looked ordinary and isn't well maintained.
