This library is quite unique with its combination of open spaces and traditional shelves - it does take some time to work out where everything is - but I enjoy perusing the shelves especially the new items section which is regularly replenished. Does it work overall? Yes, it’s functional and incorporates the new modern style of collaborative work areas. Even though it’s not the best library around, it serves its purpose, as a good community resource for the public - offering self serve borrowing, and a mostly quiet place to study with a great range of books, magazines and DVDs.

I have made a number of visits trying to research my thesis here. Its an example of the new approach (apparently) where a library tries also to be a community centre. Catering for overindulged screaming toddlers and their fond parents. Your attempts to focus will be thwarted by endless “wheels of the bus go round and round, round and round... “, led by a loud out of tune librarian. Indeed, midst loud talking, people whistling, mobile phones going off, the most prominent guaffaws, raised voices come from the librarians. Gone apprently are the days when libraries fostered learning, or a quiet still atmosphere where you could read the paper.
Place is worth visiting if you simply to experience the horrors of the modern library.

I have been going to The Grove Library for decades - before it changed to its new building. I am also a member of several other iibraries but prefer The Grove as the staff are always friendly and helpful.
