The walk from the Skaftafell visitor center is of about 25-30 minutes on even terrain, so it's easy to reach. Bring your best jackets, as the temperature falls drastically the closer you are to the glacier. The views are amazing and you just can't put...More

While the approach road may not be the best, Svinafell is a great spot to get great views of the glacier tongue without having to hike.

Svinafell is one of the smaller arms of Vatnajökull, stretching out on the west side. The small glacier is close to the ring road and easy accessible.

beautiful glacier that looks much different than the rest in the area and is lovely to watch and walk around. unfortunately weather was foggy and it was too icy everywhere to be able hike to nearby top to have high view on it

We took a glacier hike here with Icelandic Mountain Guides - the Blue Ice Experience. We had Pete from Belfast as our guide, who was friendly, funny, and exceptionally informative. We booked with this group after our first planned glacier hike and ice cave tour...More

The drive to the parking lot is indeed rocky and bumpy but not beyond navigation. We parked and then walked on foot down the private road to the glacier. It is only a couple of minutes to that car park and a further couple of...More

Yes the approach road is bumpy and potholed but no worse than a lot we were to experience (in fact a lot better than some!). Smallish car park (but no problem parking) at the very bottom of the glacier; a 3 minute walk from car...More
