Great museum, clean and tidy. Amazing exhibits and interaction stations make it a great learning opportunity. The museum cafe offers a beautiful view and the staff is polite and helpfull.

A very interesting, but small set up.
Some of the exhibits are absolutely amazing while the interactive stations were very informative.
The entry fee was very steep for the size of the place, and the only negative inside was the very loud volume of the interactive stations, making it impossible for two visitors watching at the same time.

Must visit if you are in the area, must travel if you are into geology.

OK so I’m a geographer not a geologist but what a fantastic place for learning about the earth’s past. I was fascinated and it was so great to see something so unusual. We did drive from Molyvos which is a fair trek on bad roads but I thought it was worth it. Five Euros entry was quite steep though and the cafe was somewhat limited in supplies and also my nearly teenage daughter wasn’t that interested but I think she will regret that when she has to learn about tectonics etc back at school next year! The place was clean and tidy and quite friendly. Good toilets too. Parking was easy outside. It’s a shame there wasn’t much else around to do though.

The museum is small and only one of the two rooms contains fossilized logs. The 25 acre site outside the museum contains many fossils but cannot be visited. As well as the Petrified Forest Park, located outside Sigri, is closed. The reason is the lack of staff. So no one is able to see the fossils in their natural space.

Interesting small museum about the petrified Forest & volcanic rocks. The short presentation is very insightful. Ask about the daily boat tour to the Nisiopi island petrified forest-- well worth it. I'm not usually into museums, but this one was unique & not tiring at all. Cafe/snack bar has amazing view!

We headed west on Lesvos as we had been advised the museum was worth a visit by our rep - He wasn't wrong !

Sigri is a lovely little town and to have this museum there made the visit west well worth the effort.

Countless fossilised tree trunks, a mammoths tusk and an explanation of how volcanos work.

We happened on a group who had a guide so we're able to listen in which enhanced the visit. .. we thoroughly enjoyed but then we do like both history and geology ... might not be worth a visit if someone didn't like either !!

A well designed museum with explanations and exhibits for all ages. Knowledgeable tour guides gave us a personal pre visit information as to what we were going to see and where most of the exhibits came from. Exceptional for all ages!

This is an excellent museum full of interesting information. Take your time to look at the exhibits inside and go and look at some of the examples outside. My wife spent along time looking at the information about earthquakes. To see the live data about earthquakes around Greece was fascinating. The journey to the museum was long and at times road conditions were not great. This was due to the improvements they were trying to make. An enjoyable day out!!

This is a world class museum. It is small, but very informative if you take the time to read the information and really look at the exhibits. You can't just blow through in 15 minutes and expect to have learned anything. There are some fantastic mineral specimens here and lots of material explaining how a petrified forest is formed and why the petrified trees have such an array of colors. Be sure to go to the outside displays through the door in the back of the museum. There you will see petrified stumps with their roots stretching out and many color pieces of petrified wood. Pamphlets available in an amazing array of languages. Display signs in Greek and English.

As a bonus there is a windmill nearly in front of the museum that makes for a great photo op and be sure to check out the large exposed tree trunk near the observation spot on the road into Sigri.
