Beautiful tall hidden falls
Jun 2021 • Family
Great hike and moderate level. There are some steep and rocky areas along the way. The falls are amazing and it’s a nice area to stop, lean or sit on a dead tree, eat a snack and watch the chipmunks. Up close to the falls you’ll get sprayed by water. Along the way you can take the overlook and see grand prismatic, which is an overlook and higher view and much prettier than seeing at ground level. Bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and wear good hiking shoes. And go to Rest room before you start.

falls CLOSED
May 2021 • Family
I was excited to make this hike. I read all about it in advance. The one thing I did not know was that the Falls area is periodically closed due to bear activity. I understand it’s not anybody’s fault… I wish I would’ve known that early to mid May is bear season in the park and therefore several areas are closed. I saw no mention of this on the NPS site.

Great hike

Great hike and view of grand prismatic springs. The upper view is a little steep but manageable with young kids.

Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook
Sep 2020 • Couples
We stopped at the Fairy Falls trailhead for the mile hike to the Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook. It was so worth it! It was a bit too COVID-19 crowded but we wore our masks and waited our turn at the top.

We didn’t make it to Fairy Falls. It was hot and we wimped out when we learned it was another 1.5 miles to the falls but the overlook view of GPS was breathtaking!

Long way to fairly falls but worth it. I had my bandana I soaked in the cold water to cool me down. Also you have the overlook of grand prismatic which is very good and you can really see all the colors.

Great Overlook
Sep 2020 • Family
The view from here is better than actually at the Grand Prismatic. It gets VERY busy in the afternoon. Go in the late afternoon and you’ll find plenty of parking.

Just used it to go to the Overlook.

At 6:20 pm my son and I took the 1.51 mile hike at Fairy Falls to enjoy the best view of the Grand Prismatic Spring. The trail is soft pack and has a elevation gain of 135 feet maxing at 7,077 above sea level. I know most people say it’s a easy hike but I’m a big guy and after walking/hiking all around Yellowstone all day it can cause a sweat. Bring water.

Also, it’s a mad house for parking for both Grand Prismatic and fairy falls between noon and 6pm in peak season. I’ve read that prismatic is covered with steam in the mornings and that you should view it on a clear day with the temp over 70 degrees for the best color. Definitely a sight to see. Enjoy.

Beautiful Hike
Aug 2020
This is an easy fairly flat hike. The falls at the end are beautiful. Don't walk past the overlook of the Grand Prismatic Spring. It's a beautiful start to the hike.

Easy hike with best views of Grand Prismatic Spring
Aug 2020
Located near the Grand Prismatic Spring. Well marked with large parking. It is a long and easy hike. In the beginning there is a side loop that goes up hill for the best view of Grand Prismatic Spring. Loved the hike, wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Longer hike than it states!

We mapped 6 miles from the parking lot to Fairy Falls and back, and I believe it says it's much shorter than that, so be ready! It is a peaceful hike from the Overlook to the Falls, just long :).
