We had a compact car that easily drove on this dirt road down to the creek. There were very few people along the creek and we saw a lot of ground squirrels as we made our way down to the water. This would be a great spot to have a picnic and watch for wildlife because it was so peaceful.

Even if you don't fish, this is a beautiful and peaceful place to stop for lunch or nature.

We drove to Slough Creek because my wife had camped here many times in the past. We got to the end of the road and found a beautiful and peaceful scene along the river and an excellent place for lunch with picnic tables right along the river. Even if you don't fish, this is a must see place, especially if you are coming in the northeast entrance.

Good area for wildlife viewing
Sep 2020
We stopped here in the late afternoon on our way out of the park. We were hoping to see wolves, but had to settle for Bison, Antelope and Elk.

Beautiful scenery, and good, informative, signage.

Take a hike, catch a trout and watch wildlife with out the masses. Lots of animals in the area and be wary of bears and wolves.

We need to go further next time
Jul 2019
We very much looked forward to this hike, including the opportunity to see wildlife. Sadly, light was running short and we only made it about 3 miles into the trail before having to turn back. The first 2 miles or so were nice but rather routine, whereas the third mile was beautiful as it opened up onto a gorgeous wetlands/meadow with Slough Creek running through it. We will need to go back and make time to go to the end of the trail. Sadly no luck finding animals on this day.

Great area for wildlife

The Slough Creek area is an excellent place for seeing wildlife. We saw Bison, Pronghorns as well as a Grizzly family all within about a mile of each other. Worth coming here.

Get Away from the Crowds

Slough Creek was one of our favorite parts of our Yellowstone Adventure. The road into Slough Creek is not paved, which deters a lot of visitors, but it is a good road, and easily drivable. It is beautiful, heading into a valley where wolf packs are known to hang out, and bison and deer graze. Fishermen and women love throwing their line into Slough Creek. Their are hikes up to the meadows from the end of the road. We stopped there several times to snack, to relax, to snooze a little, and to just be at one with all the beauty surrounding us.

Wolves den in this area
Apr 2019 • Solo
If this area has lots of cars they are most likely parking just off the main hwy and walking north from the bathrooms to an overlook where across the valley there is an active wolf den. However, it is very distant and without a high powered spotting scope not much to see

Nice drive
Sep 2018 • Family
We drove down here hoping to go for a hike, and also maybe to spot wolves or bison. We didn't come upon any wolves, but did see bison. The views were lovely, and it was a very nice drive.

Nice Quiet Hike
Jul 2018 • Family
Not an overly popular hike, which is nice. Saw a black bear about a mile from the parking lot. The trail is most popular with fishermen. Bring a head net as the skeeters are fierce and plentiful. You go as far as you want. We went to the cabin in the first meadow. Saw some bison. Nice drive to the trail. Could be my favorite hike in YNP all things considered. Consider going to Cooke City, MT afterward for a meal - way better than park food. Hit STOP THE CAR for ice cream in Silver Gate.
