- CanuckAlberta653 contributionsUGB wowWe loved this hike and were blown away with the variety of geysers and pools. We watched old faithful then spent 90 minutes on Upper Geyser Basin trail and got back to see old faithful erupt again. We went right to the end and found Morning Glory Pool was the most impressive and worth the effort. Amazing place and suitable for those seeking more accessible trails.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2023

It was fascinating and a lovely walk all around the boardwalk. There is such a variety of small and big geysers there. None of the bigger ones spouted while we were there.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 26, 2023

This place is said to have over half of the WORLD'S geysers and that's not even including the rest of those at Yellowstone. Old
Faithful is here. Beyond that, there is a boardwalk that takes you past numerous other named geysers and thermal features. Some of these other geysers erupt small but continuously. A few have large predictable eruptions but no where near as frequently as Old Faithful. Each geyser, of course, is an individual, different from all others. Looking over the Basin, it's interesting to see steam rising all over the place!

The three basins are my favorite part of Yellowstone and Yellowstone is my favorite place in the world. Simply beautiful. Right off the road, easy walking, amazing natural wonders.

Before or after you watch Old Faithful geyser be sure to take a walk along the upper geyser basin boardwalk out to at least morning glory pool. We then took the concrete road back toward Old Faithful geyser. This was one of our favorite hikes/walks with many different types of geysers to be seen. The total walk is about 3 miles but is very flat and easy. If you are lucky enough to stay in lodging next to Old Faithful geyser I would suggest spending a good full day in the immediate 2 mile area around the lodge. We were here the third week of October 2022 and all of the park services were closed for the summer season except for one small visitor center near Old Faithful.

Some experienced visitors say that mid winter is the best time as few visitors at that time and everything will be via ski! Plus the park is even more enchanting in winter!

How much time would it take to cover the boardwalk loop thru Upper Geyser Basin? Not counting waiting for any geysers to erupt.

Hi Daniel: This is kind of a loaded question. That is if you are to go directly from Old Faithful up to the Morning Pool (near the end of the upper geyser basin) it is 1.5 miles. Depending on how often you stop, how fast you walk, will determine the amount of time you need. My opinion, give this ENTIRE walk (you can find a trail map of the area online search, or even here in Trip Advisor) about 3 hours. I enjoy photography and there are many places for picture taking. Early morning is the BEST time to go- less crowds. Better yet, going to Yellowstone during the shoulder seasons, less heat, less crowds altogether. This is what we found. If going in summer- definitely hit this area EARLY. Whatever you do, if you can, spend a couple days in the Old Faithful area, you will not be board or without things to do and see.

Where would be a great place to get a room for the week to visit these areas in Yellowstone? Any tips appreciated. Is Jackson Hole close enough to see all these great places in yellowstone .

West Yellowstone is about 30 miles from Old Faithful. Most of the geysers are between these two points. These are also the most crowded sites. Not to say other areas aren't wonderful, just not as crowded. We took four day trips from West Yellowstone and all were easily done, the shortest in miles: Old Faithful, took the longest.

Yes you can ...I believe you can see this on tours and on a permit obtained by park service for snow mobiles
