A place to enjoy with your children
Dec 2019
This man-made lake, located by to the Hilton hotel, is a great place to relax. If you have children is ideal to let play in the water. There are plenty of activities to enjoy for all ages. You can even have a picnic in the grass area close by.

Calm waters for the kiddos
Nov 2019
This is a lagoon, i.e. an area of shallow water separated from the ocean by sand. Specifically, this one is an artificially made lagoon, run by the Hilton, but open to the public. There’s a parking lot adjacent to the lagoon, but since we were staying at the Illikai Hotel it was just a short walk from the hotel. The waters are calm and the location was perfect for our young kids (ages 3 & 5) to play without fear of them getting thrashed by waves. They had a lot of fun playing in the water and chasing after the fish that live in the lagoon. Of course, where there’s fish, there’s waste, but I’m told the water goes through a filtration system operated by the hotel. The water is a little cold, but the Hawaiian sun warms you up in no time. Speaking of the sun, there’s not much shade at the lagoon aside from the surrounding trees at the edges, so bring sunscreen or rent an umbrella. The sand around the lagoon is hard, almost rocky, so I’d also recommend bringing water shoes or sandals. You can rent water bikes, paddle boards, and beach loungers from the nearby vendors. You can also walk further down the boardwalk to reach the beach, other hotels, more shops and restaurants. Overall, it's a great place to play and lounge if you’re staying at one of the nearby hotels. Just remember to rinse yourself off if you go into the waters here.

Great spot to learn to stand up paddleboard
Oct 2019 • Couples
Calm waters mean even little kids can master SUP balance and shallow waters make learning from your errors a breeze.
Board rentals and lessons both available.

Hilton Lagoon
Oct 2019
Lovely place for a swim with kids. Water much colder than the actual sea. Suggest a nice spot on the grass to avoid $70 for 2 chairs and umbrella. We hired water trike. Lots of fun. Great place for easy access to beach or lagoon.

Perfect place to relax
Sep 2019
A great spot to spend with family. Relaxing, swimming or snorkeling (lots of fish in there), the Lagoon is perfect. Early morning when tide is low, it can be a bit dirty with coral dust, but once it fills up, it’s fine. Safe for kids. You can picnic on the grassed areas next to it, lunch, drinks, playing. Busier on weekends, but weekdays were quiet. Next to main beach area, so handy to switch between the 2 areas.

If I could give it 0 stars, I would

Upon arriving in Honolulu I was excited to learn my hotel had its own lagoon. I sprinted back out as soon as I set foot in the water.... the water was disgusting, it had a foul smell and was filled with duck and fish excrement. I immediately returned to my room and took a long shower as I felt itchy and disgusted. I cannot believe people are allowed to swim in this.

Son contracted hand foot and mouth disease!
Sep 2019
My 18 year old son was so excited to swim in the lagoon! We visited there the first week in September, 2019. The water was a little greenish and slimy. He contracted hand, foot and mouth disease which is highly contagious and not pleasant to experience. Please be aware!!

Very nice lagoon that this is shelter and calm for beginner swimmers. Has a great view of the beach and on Friday nights there are free fireworks.
