Further along Kalanianaole Highway is the Makapuu Lighthouse hiking trail. This easy route with its moderate incline to the 647-ft. summit is a popular spot during whale season between December and April. This is a definite photo opportunity even when humpbacks aren’t spouting offshore. If you’re really ambitious, tackle a pre-sunrise hike to the top so you can grab a glorious photo of the sunrise.

We were only 5 min away from this trail so we got up one morning to go see the sunset. The majority of this hike is paved but I do suggest you wear sneakers. I thought this going to be a very easy hike so...More

Nicely paved walking trail that was actually very easy to walk other than the incline. It was very hot the day we visited and decided to hike down to the pools. It was a great day so glade we visited this spot.

This is the best walking trail in Honolulu. I absolutely loved this trail, it’s easy to walk and paved all the way, we took our 4 month old granddaughter in the pram all the way to the top and it was no trouble. The views...More

This was a beautiful option for us. Diamond Head had no parking spaces and we were told to come later. So, we went to the lighthouse trail, which wasn’t nearly as busy and the vistas were beautiful. I would recommend it, but go before 11am...More

This is a relatively easy hike with a flat and well paved walkway, so it would probably be considered wheelchair accessible, but it is up hill quite a ways, even for a stoller. Take water and don't forget sunscreen and hats. Nice views away from...More

The locals will know what I mean when I say I don't come here for the lighthouse. Easy hike it can just seem kind of drawn-out. Our local acquaintance recommended this spot to us for a different activity. If you know, you know.
