We spent an hour with the tour guide and it was fascinating. Ask lots of questions and be sure to check out the letter they got from George Washington.

Learned that George Washington corresponded w/the Rabbi about allowing freedom of religion in the beginning of our new country. Learning about the history of the Jewish community in Newport and how the synagogue was built was wonderful.

Again, we could look at the grounds, which were beautiful, but we could not get inside due to it being Sunday and they did not open until later in the day.

We drove to the synagogue as part of a day trip from Providence. We bought the tour on arrival. Make sure you check the website and go when it’s open!
