I love this place! We visited several years ago and this was tops on the list to see again when we came back to Tucson. It is a great way to experience and learn about the vegetation and animals you see throughout the desert.

Non-native animals in cages and a tank to touch stingrays. WHY? The place is too small and hot for the animals to roam. Most animals were seeking relief from the heat so not visible and only a few hummingbirds were in hummingbird house. It is a desert museum to showcase desert flora. Spare the animals and your wallet, go to the the nearest zoo.

Had a great time here. Stop here first before visiting the surrounding parks so you know what you are looking at!

This is a great combination of zoo and botanical garden that highlights the amazing diversity of the Sonoran Desert. The only problem we had was we picked the wrong time early afternoon after lunch. It was unbelievably hot which meant were not only uncomfortable but we did not get to see many of the animals. I will say the plant diversity that the Sonoran is known for was amazing to see here. With water, everything was in bloom. Other than the Big Horn Sheep and hummingbirds, everything else was asleep wolf, coyote, javelinas, and mountain lion. Still the layout and premise of the museum was great. I would highly recommend in the morning. Much of the museum is outside in the elements, so be prepared. It is perfectly located just outside the entrance to Saguaro National Park West. It was not my favorite thing in Tucson but I see why so many love it.
