The drive to the site is very cool along the river; however, the dam has been removed but its remains are still visible. There are multiple places to view deer and elk. A round trip takes about an hour. There is a short trail to...More

This is a beautiful area which includes Madison Falls. The main paved road to the removal site is closed for repairs due to several washouts. To hike on paved road is 3.4 miles each way, therefore, not easy accessible by all. The Elwha River is...More

Thanks to the Elwha Dam removal to a wild river the road has been washed out and you can no longer get to any roads or trailheads. Access to this part of Olympic National Park is now gone. What a stupid idea this was.

This review is specific to the Elwha Interpretive site. The pullout is helpful to know the history pre dams, dams period and post dam. Learning that salmon were found a month after the dam was removed was inspirational. I like the children's tiles that decorate...More

We have been here many times over the years, and from the first year of the removal of the dam, it has been cool to see nature take back the area. Give the forest a chance and it will do this!! Having walked many of...More

We visited here many months ago. The Center itself and the trails of the lake bottom were great fun. However, recent flooding has caused the Park to close access. Roads and campgrounds have been washed out with no idea of when it will reopen

The salmon have come back in record time after these two dams were removed. This is a lovely walk and a great story.

Interesting environmental solution to a perceived problem from the 1920's. Now the salmon can re-establish breeding grounds not available for nearly one hundred years. Lots of interesting science may be documented a the grounds recover.

The removal of this over 200 ft dam was the 2nd of two to let the river flow free in order to allow fish to spawn again in the area. Good signage of what was done and why. Interesting to see where the lake use...More
