    Rushmore amazing
We detoured here on our way back to Canada and it was worth the effort. Amazing place, testament to will, determination, perseverance of the time as well as a monument to four influential presidents. It was awesome visiting with so few people around, I cannot imagine being here in the summer. Only down side is the Presidential Trail is closed in winter.

    Visits Never Get Old
I believe this might be my fourth visit over my lifetime and it never gets old. It's always amazing to see! The Mount Rushmore Story is fascinating, but the reason for this monument as an inspiration for the continuance of our freedoms in our beloved country brings hope. It only cost $10 parking fee to visit and is the NPS best deal.

    Amazing!
Nothing more to say than we were both awestruck by the monument and what is symbolizes to America. It was massive and the walk of flags was a great touch walking up to the monument. We did no walk the stairs as my hubs is disabled but you can see it all on level 3. Go for a visit if you can.

This is probably one of the least expensive iconic monuments in the National Park Service
We live a few hours away in Minnesota and have visited the Black Hills of South Dakota several times. Here’s how to do it on the cheap. First, hit it right in the spring when the weather breaks. We stayed in the Deadwood Lodge right up the road and it was beautiful for only $99 a night including a $25 meal voucher and $25 breakfast voucher. Second, there’s tons of free stuff around here, including the trolly in Deadwood that runs around all the time. Third, this is a driving vacation and there is little public transportation. Drive from wherever you are in the USA, or rent a car with unlimited miles from a faraway place. And finally, don’t try to do it in two days unless you have to. We have been doing the Badlands (1.5 hours east) and the Black Hills piecemeal for several years, it gorgeous and like being in the mountains. Think of it as Aspen or Vail, Colorado at a third of the price. Don’t forget a side journey to Devils Tower (you can hike around it, but not with a dog).

Been on my bucket list for 62 years
When I was 10 I learned about the 4 Presidents in Mount Rushmore & I wanted to see it ever since. This is a magnificent monument and grounds are kept very clean. There are plenty of seats to sit on & the video provided is very educational and interesting. Our whole group (6) adults loved it.

    Best day at Mt. Rushmore!
Haven’t been here since I was a kid! Wonderful time of year to visit! Prior to Memorial Day weekend and the crowds were small, parking perfect and bright blue skies! Staff was attentive and answered questions. Presidential Trail very nice, clean and welcoming.

    Awesome!
Wow! What can I say that hasn’t been said already. If you come, pick a day when the weather will be good. The last thing you need is to arrive with clouds and/or rain and not be able to view the monument and walk the path. When you leave the parking area and head towards the main entrance you can see Mt. Rushmore from there. The entry way known as “The Avenue of Flags” has flags from the states there. Fun to find your state flag and take a picture. You can either view the monument from the main viewing area or go down a couple more steps to another viewing area where you will have no one obstructing your view. If you go to the right, there are stairs that will take you to the Sculptors’ Studio and Presidential Trail. The trail has a lot of steps, and the walk can be strenuous. There are several signs posted as reminders. The walk is worth doing and there are plenty of benches to stop and catch your breath along the way. As you continue you will eventually come to a paved walkway that has a slight incline, but no steps, this will take you back to the viewing area. So, if you want a glimpse closer and don’t want to take the stairs, you can go to the left, which is less strenuous. If you plan on viewing it at night, I highly suggest you find a hotel that is near the monument instead of navigating your way back to your hotel in the dark. On your way out, stop and get a scoop or two of the Thomas Jefferson Ice Cream.

    Special
This is a great place. I loved all the state flags framing the presidents. The video was good and not too long for littles. My only complaint was the parking garage. Utter chaos with people getting their permits, no direction, card only. Nice gift shop.

    Great Nighttime Presentation
Our second time here, was here in 2011. This time we elected to drive the 14 mile Needles road late in the afternoon, then get to Mt.Rushmore for the evening ceremony and lighting of the Sculpture. Excellent presentation by the National Park Service, video and honoring all veterans, past and present. Was well worth the time to see this program.

Absolutely spectacular. Well worth the trip. A must do for every American, non-Americans as well. Museum is terrific. Take your time and learn about it conception and build. There are profile views from the road as well. Military veterans get a discount on parking.

On my bucket list for years … my visit didn’t disappoint! People have said to me, not much in the area. I didn’t care, I just had to see the presidents. They have a nice walkway to get closer to the monument and signs highlighting the construction and the presidents. Huge gift shop!!

My husband and I really enjoyed seeing Mt. Rushmore. People told us it wasn't very big, but we thought it was as big as expected. They offer parking garages for a fee, then it's an easy walk from there to see it. Nice gift shop with a ton of items too.

Mount Rushmore is an amazing sight to see. It’s just mind boggling…how’d they do that?!? Once you get past that, it’s just not worth it. They charge too much for parking considering there’s nothing else to see or do and it’s very crowded and touristy. I told my friends if they ever go just drive past it and save your money

As a history buff, I enjoyed the beauty. I feel that parking should be free. Also dissatisfied with the lack of collection in gift shops. More like tourist stuff. You could tell it was off season and needed to restock

The giant carved faces on the mountain are awesome. We arrived in the morning and easily found paid parking in the garage by the visitor center. The main plaza and walkways direct your view toward the mountain. The visitor center is large with multiple buildings and includes a restaurant, theater, and informational displays. We also hike the loop trail down by the base of the mountain. There are a lot of steps and it is fairly exposed to the sun, so take water on a warm day. We enjoyed learning about the history of the area and viewing the mountain.

We were in awe of Mount Rushmore. It was so beautiful in person, and we were lucky to have perfect weather. What an amazing piece of art and the visitor center was like a museum that provided you with all of the background and the incredible artistry / genius that went into creating this landmark. Highly recommend for all ages, pictures do not do it justice, it's a must see site!

The Black Hills in the fall is something to see! There's a lot less traffic so you can take your time as you wander through the canyons on those hairpin twists and turns!
