This is a hospital, so it felt funny to be going floor to floor (5 floors) looking at the extensive art collection on each floor, while sick people wandered around. And in niches in the walls along the staircases also held art. It was an...More

My wife and I visited the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) craft shop during a visit to Alaska 12 years ago and made a point of making sure we returned during our vacation to Alaska this year. We never would have expected to find crafts...More

The craft shop commissions work from Alaska Native Artists and sells it to the visitors to the hospital which uses the proceeds to provide income to the Alaska Native arts community. Don't miss the arts and crafts displayed all along the stairs on 3 floors!

Some of the best native art we saw on display in Anchorage was behind glass on each floor of the medical center and in the dioramas on the stairwell. The craft shop had a good variety on sale.

I wasn't sure what to expect exactly when our friends insisted that this was the go to place in Anchorage for Alaskan Native crafts. They were so right. What a find. And be sure to hike the stairwells and hallways of the hospital where installations...More

It never would have occurred to me to voluntarily go to a hospital when not in need of emergency medical help. I saw this listed in a guide book and my wife and I thought we'd give it a try. It's a large hospital complex...More

Part of what made this experience so delightful were the volunteers. Most of the crafts here are behind the counter or on shelves that aren't accessible without someone handing you the piece. So there was lots of chance for discussing origin, meaning and more. I...More

I believe it's 10am to 2pm most days. Also, they only accept cash or check, but there is an ATM in the building which doesn't charge a fee.
