I love Orval beer and visited the abbey many times as solo or with friends as well. It is always a pleasant way to kill some time, like an hour and a half. Afterwards, in the vicinity, you can get some crispy or old beers. In the abbey you can learn on brewing process and history as well. The scene is nice and not too stuffed with tons of information but also you get the basics you need. To visit the new monastery there are only 2 possibilities in each year I think, and the brewery itself also. So what you can see are the ruins of the old monastery and some gardens, exhibition rooms etc... Once I'll sign up for the visit of the operating part.

Visit the: -Ruins -Monastery -Church (completely dark inside). -Old Brewery -Have a drink and eat something in their restaurant Note: take advantage to bring a crate of Orval with you since it is not easy to find, also ask for the explanation on how to store it since it not like a normal bear.

When you are in the neighbourhood, definitely visit the orval Abbey. It has both ruins, history, new buildings and the brewery with a very informative tour.

LOVED this place! The beer and cheese were both excellent. The grounds (ruins) are also quite interesting and the whole experience was fascinating - would return here in a flash!
