Address
Neighborhood: Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.

Really Good! BBQ, bar food, great sandwiches, Q, hamburgers. Generous portions, lots of options. Can be loud, and a bit crowded during peak lunch time. Worth a little wait, and great food! Frozen bar drinks, great beer. It was our go to place for lunch and an occasional dinner.

Beer was good. Food was good. Pulled pork sandwich was yummy. Ordering was odd. You pick up the menus and order at the bar. Several people walked out because I think they were confused as to whether it was just a bar.

We happened upon the Ugly Dog by chance. We were visiting the WWII Museum and planned to eat somewhere afterwards, but it was pouring rain and we wanted someplace close. We were told about this great Burger & BBQ place down the road. They were not wrong...great service and food/drinks. Highly recommend, if you want something besides seafood.

I ate at the restaurant while attending a conference at the convention center. The restaurant was close and within walking distance. Food was excellent. Portions were large. Quality was outstanding. Price was good, too. Service was fair. One staff member seemed overwhelmed and impatient with a few guests. If I’m back in that area, I would welcome the opportunity to eat there again. If you like BBQ, I encourage you to give the restaurant a try.

Try the Fried Ribs!! You won’t regret it!
We tried a variety to include the wings, pulled pork, burnt ends, and Fried Ribs. The ribs were by far the best that we had. The others are good so you can’t go wrong, but this was our first time trying fried ribs. The fries are potato wedges.
The location is very convenient to the Convention Center. It’s a dive and doesn’t look like much, but it was clean and characteristic of NOLA.
Our only complaint is having to get soda refills at the bar. When the bar is busy, you wait in the order line, which isn’t convenient, but not something that would keep us from coming back again.

Was in town for a business seminar and while wandering one night found the Ugly Dog.
It was early in the evening so things hadn't gotten too busy yet. Grabbed a menu and sat down to look it over. I liked the look of the platter so I asked the bartender if it would be enough for me (I'm a good-sized feller). He said it should be enough and I took his word on it.
Got the Combo Platter with regular sausage, pulled pork and mac/cheese + ugly fries and a biscuit. Dang it was good.
I didn't hang around too long as I was just by myself but it seemed like a cool place. I recommended it to a few colleagues and hope to visit it again if I am ever back in the Big Easy.

We stumbled in on accident and didn’t regret it. The fried Buffalo style ribs were good. We shared BBQ platters- burnt ends were tasty. We were not fans of the sides-the coleslaw was dry and bland and the jambalaya was undercooked and tasted more like Spanish rice. The pulled pork was good. We had fun after lunch playing pool. We will be back.

Found this place after walking from the WWll museum. Large dining area, picnic tables with rolls of paper towels on the table. Very clean and staff was friendly. Food was very good. Pulled pork was good, chicken tacos where good. Mac and cheese, potato salad and biscuit all good. Would return here if in the area again.

We stopped in here on the way back from dinner for a drink. Great prices and a friendly dive bar. A heavy pour, which is not necessarily bad, but it made my drink a bit hard to enjoy until the ice melted some. Really reasonable prices. I think we missed out not having some BBQ. Would like to try it again.

My husband and I stopped here before going to the World War II museum and were glad we did. He had the pulled pork and I had the pulled pork sliders. The coleslaw and potato salad were great sides!! The cheddar biscuit was really freaking good!

Hi Ugly Dog. We will be visiting your neck of the woods from Australia next week. Your pub sounds like its right up our alley. Big ask though !! There is an important Aussie Rules Football game on Sat 4th would there be any chance of showing this on your telly. Probably on the day after.
We would love to sample your hospitality and bbq.
Cheers,
Derek
