That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.

    Beautiful park steeped in history
Beautiful park we visited as part of a walking tour. Our guide touched on the vast history relevant to the area, but I’m sure a deeper dive would make a visit even more interesting. Also, lots of great old huge trees if that is your thing.

A Memorial not to be missed.
Simply a park that begs any memory of the great man. The Park hosts music across the year and the gateway is astounding. The theatre Mahalia Jackson is a venue that remembers another great artist and has regular productions.

    A memorial to jazz music
Such a beautiful park to take a stroll. Though the park is dedicated to Louis Armstrong and jazz music it is also steeped in Voodoo history and the starting point for a number of voodoo and ghost tours. Catch it at sun down and see them light the sign up.

Very clean manicured park with open space meaning great turning radius and surfaces inside the oak for wheelchairs. Several interesting states in the park.

While the history and some of the sculptures in this park were really cool - it felt forgotten, neglected, and empty. The auditorium is falling apart and in disrepair - and the park seemed unfinished and very unpopulated. I wanted it to be more grand to honor its namesake: Louis Armstrong.

The atmosphere was great, with beautiful statues, and amazing African history. Many people provide information and knowledge.

Pretty park but a bit of a disappointment. The water feature wasn't turned on and there was no bathroom. But it is definitely worth a visit, to see the beauty that is there

It was a sad place. Dilapidated buildings, dead birds floating in the pond, dirty. I saw some good reviews but that was not our experience.

I loved walking around here, even though it was cloudy and rainy. Perhaps that's why it was empty & quiet but we still enjoyed it. We hope to visit on a sunny day next time!
