Neighborhood: French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

    Good tour but not essential
We enjoyed our tour round the cemetery, and our guide Will was good. However, we had just done a free tour of the French Quarter without knowing this would include much of the same information while stopping outside this cemetery. It was cool to look inside one of the most famous ones in town, it’s conveniently located near other sites, and it’s nice to only have it with the smaller group that we were in, but if you’re looking to economise I wouldn’t say this is an essential stop on a trip to New Orleans.

    Alan is the best!
Alan was truly magnificent! He gave such a wonderful tour, he had fun facts, very insightful, comical, and lively! If he could give every tour in New Orleans, I would jump on that opportunity. Highly recommend!

    Zelda needs a raise
Zelda was out tour guide when my family and I came to visit NO. We came down for a volleyball tournament Feb 2023 and just wanted to see more of the city. My sister is big on history especially with her being a fan of AHS and watching the season about Marie Louveau. So, instantly Zelda was welcoming because being from Texas, i was a bit nervous for the tour being that our graves are under ground. However, Zelda showed us southern hospitality and put us at ease. She mentioned the tour is on limited time so we have to get through everything with limited interruptions so we can get our money’s worth. Absolutely understandable. I was excited at this point. Until a rude Caucasian woman just kept interrupting Zelda while Zelda is trying to explain everything. That woman was so distracting, i wish security could’ve kicked her out of our group. When the people in our group tried to tell her to be quiet and to hold her questions for the end, she still wouldn’t listen and pulled the “Karen” card on Zelda. So, at this point, the white lady had everyone hot (literally & figuratively) however, the whole time while it was hot, Zelda kept her professionalism on point. She’s definitely a great tour guide because the group was fed up with pink toes. All in all, Zelda did an amazing job and I hope when we come back for Essence Festival, she’s still there. She needs a raise and that lady should never come back.

    Informative Tour
Bill did an amazing job doing our tour. Very informative, it was almost insane how much information he remembered off the top of his head. He broke down facts and was able to clearly decider urban legends and what is records. Highly recommend brining a hat and something to drink even though you’re standing around.

    Great experience
Zelda was amazing! Very informative. I loved that she tied in her personal experience with the history of the cemetery. She advised us ahead of time to get an umbrella and have something cold to drink. Just wish we would have taken her advice lol

A must do when visiting New Orleans
You can only enter the cemetery by a tour which I can highly recommend. In the middle of summer I would suggest an early tour as it is extremely hot inside. There is a small amount of shade and some misters but it is still very hot. We had Will as our guide who was fabulous with his stories and history and was very gracious with all our questions. You have to meet at Basin Street Station and I would recommend booking in advance.

    Dark Tourism at it’s best!!!
Witchcraft, Voodoo and magic combined with a healthy history of New Orleans. The cemetery is a must and is not to be missed when you are visiting New Orleans. Book early to avoid the masses of crowds/tours that are waiting for their scheduled entry in the information centre. Our tour guide Denise was very informative throughout the tour and kept us entertained.

    Will and Alaina were awesome!
The whole experience was great! Alaina helped us out purchasing tickets and letting us know what to expect. Will was a wonderful guide and tried to keep us all cool by finding shade and maneuvering expertly. He was entertaining and gave us lots of local recommendations as well!

This was one of the sites I wanted to be sure I was able to tour while in town. You cannot go into this cemetery without a guide and paying the $20 fee which helps to upkeep and restore some of the abandoned tombs.

Booking the tour was easy and finding the starting spot was also easy as it's directly across the street at the Basin St. Station. Our guide was a wonderful local whose family has been a resident since the beginning of New Orleans.

We saw all the notable tombs and spent around an hour inside learning about above-ground burials and how and why it's done here.

Highly recommend you visit this cemetery!

Fascinating tour into local burial practices, only criticism is we seemed a bit rushed into moving on (probably due to the fast turn over of tours) and the guide would often start commentary before everyone had chance to reach him.

This tour consisted of a guided walking tour through the cemetery. Our guide told stories of some of the people that lived in New Orleans and were buried there. The highlight was Marie Laveau’s tomb. Given the rich history of the city I expected more substance to the tour and a chance to walk around and read tombs and explore a bit on our own. The tours were running every 15 minutes so they were herding us through.
