    SO AMAZING!
This National Park space is just fantastically beautiful, serene and just cool. Make sure to check the times and talk to the park ranger to get some really great info on the place. After touring the building, head outside to the river area for just as good of a view. You'll need under an hour and not completely handicap accessible.

    Very interesting & informative
I knew very little about George Rodgers Clark before I visited. However, now I know how great a man & patriot he was. The site is run by the US park service & they do a great job. At the visitor center, you can see a 30-minute movie about the role George Rodgers Clark played in the US Revolution. Afterwards you can see the inside of the very impressive memorial. It is all free & well worth a visit.

    A local American Revolution luminary.
This is a lesser known U.S. national park honoring a local Revolutionary War luminary. Until I visited this place, I didn't even know about this person, and I taught early American history to elementary students! Inside the round building at the park, is a guide. The day I was there, there few visitors, so we talked at length, and his general knowledge of this person, as well as the American Revolution in general was astounding. If you are "into" American Revolution history, and are in this area, this is a must see. Inside the building, the acoustics are great! The walls are covered by floor to ceiling paintings depicting the local history involving this person. There is also a visitors center nearby.

Great place to learn a bit. We enjoyed the visitor center and the monument. Make sure to do the jr range program if you have a kiddo with you.

We didn't plan on stopping here, but so glad we did! The visitors center was nice but the actual exhibit was awesome! Beautiful area along the river.

A ranger took us inside the rotunda where there are murals. Don't forget to admire the river that flows by. The Old Cathedral is next door.

Our family stopped here on our way back from a trip to Indianapolis. We were pleasantly surprised by the monument itself, the story of George Rogers Clark and the related visitor center. This was well worth the stop.

This place was a big surprise for us. We were in Vincennes to visit Grouseland, and I saw this NHP on the map, so we went over.
George Rogers Clark was a really interesting personality, who pulled off an amazing victory, in Ohio, over the British, during the Revolutionary War.
I'm not going to tell you the story, but it is well worth a visit, to learn about this piece of American history.
Frankly, we were amazed by the size of this monument. It reminded us of the Jefferson Memorial in DC.

George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Vincennes, Indiana is the site of one of the most memorable feats of the American Revolution. Located on the banks of the Wabash River, at what is believed to be the site of Fort Sackville, it is where Clark, the older brother of William Clark of Lewis & Clark fame, after leading a heroic march from Kaskaskia on the Mississippi River in mid-winter, captured the fort in 1779, allowing the newly formed United States to claim control of what would become the states of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Today, at 401 South 2nd Street in Vincennes, in the Vincennes Historic District, visitors can see a memorial placed at the believed site of Fort Sackville and an adjacent visitors' center which presents interpretative programs and displays. The memorial building is a circular granite structure surrounded by 16 granite fluted Greek Doric columns in a peripteral colonnade capped with a saucer dome of glass panels and resting on a stylobate. Other prominent features in the park include John Angel's granite statue of Francis Vigo, a 4-by-9-foot monument overlooking the Wabash River erected in 1934 to honor the Italian-American merchant who assisted General Clark; the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier that holds a 1934 bronze statue honoring Father Pierre Gibault, another figure in the Revolutionary War; the Lincoln Memorial Bridge that spans the Wabash River and celebrates the migration of Abraham Lincoln; a concrete flood wall that protects the memorial and Vincennes from Wabash flooding; a memorial to the soldiers from Knox County who served in World War I; a marker designating where Clark's headquarters likely stood during his siege of Fort Sackville; and a limestone bas relief that depicts a young George Rogers Clark receiving his orders to attack the British outposts on the Western frontier from Patrick Henry. The property was designated a National Historic Park and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.

The park is located along the Wabash River, just south of the picturesque bridge downtown. Stop in at the visitor center first, and view the short movie to get a sense of what the place is about. Then go up into the monument to learn even more - the plaques inside go into more detail in some respects. The architecture of the monument is impressive, and so is the view of the river and surrounding park. We loved this place so much, we returned on our way back through town and had lunch by the river. We learned that there's actually a paved path by the river, accessible from the park - saw folks walking and bicycling while we had our lunch. What a great spot!
