About
Fronting the Atlantic Ocean, this legendary amusement district is a popular day trip from New York City. An hour-long subway ride from Times Square will take you to Coney Island. Check out must-visit attractions such as Luna Park, the New York Aquarium, and Deno’s Wonder Wheel. Then, make a beeline for the Cyclone ride—one of the country’s oldest wooden roller coasters still in operation. The Thunderbolt and Wonder Wheel, a Ferris wheel with rocking chairs, are highly recommended, too. Hungry after all the action? Grab some of the best hotdogs at Nathan’s Famous. – Tripadvisor

    So Fun!
Yes it’s expensive, but what did you expect? After you pay, you are given a wristband that can be used to get on the rides for up to 4 hours. The rides are very fun and I would recommend with children older than 7. The park is amazing and for my family it was a great experience!

    Better Than Expected
Always wanted to go here and finally did it. We live in Ocean City and have a boardwalk as well and this boardwalk rivals this hands down. We went here during the off season, so everything was closed, but I can imagine all the activities being open and all the people out there having a great time. We didn't walk the complete boardwalk, but what we walked it seemed to be well taken care of and wide. What I really liked it that you can take one train from Times Square to get here. And it's directly across the street from the train station - very easy walk or wheelchair ride. It's perfect if you want to get a beach day in while visiting Manhattan - I think the train ride from Times Square took an hour.

    Great beach
The beach is absolutely beautiful and very clean. There are lots of places to eat along the boardwalk and the burgers and hot dogs etc are very reasonable however the alcohol is expensive. If you are bringing young children be aware that the toilets are absolutely filthy at the beach but the theme park toilets are better. There was one male lying completely naked and young children around so need to be mindful of this. Also an extensive use of drugs around the beach. If you are using the Sight seeing pass you only get really three rides at the theme park. The individual stalks eg shooting are 5 dollars per chance so can be a very expensive day if you have children in your group. There was no where to hire sunbeds etc so bring something to sit on. No lifeguards either but this maybe better in the summer.

    Wonder Boardwalk
Great scenery and much better than anticipated. After seeing this area in countless movies, it was time for a visit. The boardwalk provides stunning views and lots of fresh air plus exercise. A nice change from Time Square which is where we’re staying.

    Had potential
I bet twenty years ago, this was the place to be. It had so much potential, was not at all like you see in movies or during the famous hot dog eating competitions. Hardly anything open, some of the rides weren't working and the restaurants open, was just ok. Glad they had alcohol, otherwise would have been seriously disappointed.

Mermaids and Hot Dogs and Sea, Oh My!
Four long years ago, I made a vow to return the following June to see the storied mix of King Neptune's Court meets Mardi Gras, the Mermaid Parade. As you can imagine, things didn't work out so very well with that idea. But I persevered, and planned my 2023 return around the aquatic celebration. Bring from another coast (and ocean), I was interested in what the eastern shore of Brooklyn was like. The sand and surf were wonderful, I arrived early just so I could take a beach walk. Like any proper visitor, I had a late breakfast Nathan's hot dog, then wandered among the vendors. Chicken of the Sea, one of the parade sponsors, was giving away free pouches of tasty kinds of tuna, and some colorful fans, while a local hot sauce vendor caught my eye (and my taste buds!). I staked out a spot directly opposite the judging stand, so had a gull's eye view of all the participants, and even got on the local news (according to a pal who claimed to have seen me that evening). The scene was amazing, and the artistic creativity of the marchers was just phenomenal. The only disappointment was that The Cyclone was closed due to the winds. I'd hoped to take a ride, so now I'll need to return for that next trip. The subway ride to Manhattan was filled with costumed participants headed home. Fortunately, the weather held for the parade, though at one Brooklyn station, it was pouring buckets, but two stops away, the sun was out. I am so glad I persevered to visit. The whole spectacle was amazing and I feel lucky to have experienced it. I'll definitely plan to come back. Maybe next time, I'll march as a California mermaid!

    Relax and swim.
The boardwalk is fun with a variety of places to eat. The shower stations on the boardwalk can get crowded and parents were giving kids complete showers so they were hogging the shower stations whilst others were waiting. The fruit vendors seem to be numerous also and were even blocking the exit from the boardwalk. There should be some restrictions as to where the vendors can set up. The beach is nice and very refreshing and there were no loud boom boxes near to us.

Coney Island is trying to improve and you really have to walk around the amusement area to experience it.
Coney Island is a place of extremes. You have a shrinking amusement area, sometimes at night not the best crowds and you do have to watch yourself at sunset. Still there are many wonderful things to do and see on Coney Island. The new Luna Park is very active with new rides and attractions that keep families amused. The boardwalk still has a lot of excitement to it and on a nice day is the perfect place to get a tan and get something to eat. Nathan's still has the best hot dogs and fries. The Coney Island Museum is an excellent place to go if you want to learn the history of the amusements of the island and want to take a step back into history. The NY Aquarium has an interesting Shark exhibition that should not be missed and you have to experience the seal show. The beach is still one of the nicest in NYC. Off the beaten track, there are wonderful Russian restaurants in Brighton Beach and Tortino's is still the best for pizza on Neptune Avenue. You have to look at Coney Island from all angles as it is not Disneyland.

    You need to see it!!
This is a historical place that must be seen. Many areas are really vintage and others remained untouched for decades giving a strong feel of the past, and how it used to look like when it was in its prime. The 1920's world famous cyclone is still operating with its original and scary wooden seats... scary because you feel every move and every curve makes you feel as if you will fall off... scariest rollercoaster ever! I highly recommend being there at least just for a look!

We went to visit for half a day.
Checked that it was open and rides would be working - but they weren't.
Good job we hadn't gone with children as they would have been disappointed.
It was very quiet and we enjoyed a walk along the boardwalk.

Have been to New York a few times and didn't realise you could get to CI by subway.

We will definitely be going again.

One of my favorite places. Just avoid the worst crowds by going to the right or the left on the sand- unless you want to be in the middle of dense crowds. I love the boardwalk food, the water is clear and calm and clean.

It IS a city beach so it can be a bit dirty but considering how many people use this beach it's astonishing that it is as clean as it is. If you go away from the most crowded areas, more towards Brighton Beach, it gets less crowded and cleaner.

While its heyday may be long due, Coney Island is still New York's prime seaside resort. The southern end of Brooklyn is an once-lively waterfront boardwalk with an unparalleled old-world vibe. A stroll along the peaceful beach is enjoyable even if Luna Park is nor the reason to come.

So sad. Like a demilitarized zone. Middle of August, warm day, empty. Amusement park seemingly abandoned. Homeless and drug addicts yelling at passers by. Police everywhere. This place is supposed to be for family days out???? I’d read it was low rent fun but the place was joyless and the atmosphere was grim. The flip side of Manhattan. We turned around and went straight back. Just terribly sad.

Coney Island is a big permanent carnival on the beach with a boardwalk. Lots of horrible fast food places and loud music.
