At first, we were going out Tuesday morning, but at the advice of the salty character handling the boats, we decided to make it around noon, during high tide. We learned that the fish were more apt to bite when the tide starts heading out. We also got a good map and tips on where to fish. We needed a good map because I would be piloting the boat. The tips turned up nothing in the way of fish but there is a lot of water out there.... Still we enjoyed the beautiful day and watching the dolphins catching the fish we were after! Everything was clean, the service was great and I would like to return for more fishing soon.

We were traveling from Atlanta and had originally booked our transfer with Daufuskie Island Ferry, but we started to get overwhelmed at all the rules regarding luggage weight and number of bags allowed with them and all the fees, etc. We also had several members in our party who had mobility issues, and I was growing anxious at the thought of cramming into the giant boat with a lot of other people. At the last minute, I called Bull River, and I’m so glad I did. We talked with Willy and explained our situation, and he gave me his personal cell and told me to call him when we arrived and he would take care of us, and he delivered on that promise. He had the nicest guys waiting with a golf cart at the marina who took care of all of our luggage and helped my elderly father down the doc to the marina. We got some drinks and really enjoyed our time at the marina while they loaded our bags and got the boat ready. They did not fuss over weighing or counting our luggage, and that took so much stress out of our trip for us (I should also note that we weren’t ridiculous with luggage…I’m sure if you try to bring truck loads of furniture or crazy amounts of stuff over they’d have to weigh it and charge for it…but if you simply have a normal amount of luggage and coolers, etc, I thought it was really nice that they don’t nickel and dime you over it). They took care of absolutely everything, and we had a great time on our ride over (which honestly felt more like an excursion than a simple water transfer). Captain Sullivan was great and was so kind to help us unload at the County Dock. We will never travel to Daufuski any other way and cannot recommend Bull Ricer Marina strongly enough!

Bryan was our captian, he was very nice. We went on the trip to shark tooth island, it was about a 10-15 minute trip from the marina. We did not find quite as many teeth as we were hoping for, but it was fun and we did find some decent sized ones. We stayed out there for 4 hours and they recommend going out about an hour after high tide. On the way back, we got to see a few dolphins, so close you could touch them. I think they wanted food, but they were adorable, looked like they were trying to either wave or do some kind of a trick. When we got back, Bryan showed us to the hose so that we could hose off our feet, which was nice because there is a lot of clay out there, make sure you wear something that you don't mind getting messed up.

We did our research about a ferry to Daufuskie Island and based on the web site we chose them. When calling to reserve we found that most of what is on the site is inaccurate. They advertise free parking but when you book it’s $15 per day. The lady in the office made me feel like I was bother her. They advertise and list that they go to most docks on their site. They specifically list the docks and only post one price but when you reserve some docs are more expensive. Basically they don’t stand behind anything they advertise.

Everything was fine until we got the bill.
Husband and I used the Bull River Marina for the first time to travel form Savannah to Dafusukie for a day trip. Booked in advance on the phone with the reservationist. We were not made aware by the reservation agent that if the taxi did not have 3 + passengers that we would be charged for 4 tickets for each leg of travel (double). If we had been made aware of this fact, we would have gladly chosen different times/day when the boat had more passengers or even chosen to take the ferry out of Hilton Head if no full boats were available. We did not review the emailed receipt, as we didn't believe I needed to do that, as the reservationist seemed trustworthy. Our mistake on that. Took the trip with very pleasant and competent sailors and on the way, it was just the two of us (ignorantly blissful we were paying for 4 tickets). On the way back, there were two other additional passengers on the return trip. The next day I was reviewing our credit card and discovered we had been charged for 8 tickets for the round trip. We called the Marina to find out what the issue was and were told of the 3-person minimum for trips. We mentioned that we had not been advised of this policy upon booking (as we would have changed our times/days) and also, if this was the policy, why were we charged for 4 tickets when there were four passengers on the return trip - We were told the minimum boat person charge was on the website (we had gotten a recommendation from a fisherman) and the the fact that we were charged extra for the trip that had 4 people in the boat was a “clerical error.” We feel we have been taken advantage of and will never use this Marina for any service of any kind again. It’s too bad that we needed to write this note, as we want to support independent businesses, but not when they use deceptive practices.

We took a trip to look for shark teeth late in November 2020. The weather was dismal and cold but Bull River Marina’s employees were warm and friendly. They were knowledgeable and helpful and really went out of their way to make us welcome. Captain Turner made the trip through the rain fun and Austin shared his fossil knowledge and hot coffee with us when we got back. I highly recommend Bull River Marina.

Booked the Ferry Service to Daufuskie Island. Bull River Marina owned and run by a wonderfully delightful young couple. She was fantastic with setting up our arrangements and giving clear directions. She also recommended The Crab Shack for dinner, which was excellent! The husband is the captain and in charge of the crews. Because of river traffic and intermittent downpours, the ferry was later than scheduled. He apologized and explained, and then went out of his way to make sure we avoided the next downpour and took the time to spot dolphins and even double back for us to enjoy! So personable and conscientious! A different crew brought us back from the island and kicked it into high gear in order to outrun the next storm and get us safely back to the marina still dry!!
They have other options and I will definitely book with them in the future! The two suggestions would be to let anyone know that on Mondays almost everything on Daufuskie is closed (mentioned after we had booked and were waiting on the ferry) and while Paul on Daufuskie may have a fun personality, we were ripped off big time with the cart he provided, and when we let him know of the problems, not even an apology nor offer to refund a portion of the $65!!

Good people to work with. I had to reduce the number of ferry tickets twice and they did at no charge.
They are the ONLY company that offers services to Daufuskie Island from Savannah and they do it well.

Only thing is, they reduced their hours on July 4th so you are kind of "stuck" on the island like Gilligan from 9 to 5 p.m. Good news is that Daufuskie is a true cultural experience and the curious tourist needs a full day or more to fully enjoy the island.

This was a great trip. The staff were very friendly and relaxed. We felt very safe on the boat and our captain even checked on a stranded boat and radioed for help since we were full.

We were told all the warnings about slick clay, freight tankers going by and where not to go. There were tools that we could use that were very helpful.

We didn’t find a lot of teeth but we did find a lot of bone fragments. A gentleman from Oregon even found a fossilized horse tooth with the root still attached!!!

When we were on the way back we saw a pod of dolphin that had babies. The captain stopped the boat so we could get pictures of them. The adults and kids all loved that.

What can I say...besides OUTSTANDING all around! The whole staff/team was incredibly kind and polite. They ensured we had everything we needed to enjoy and incredible experience on the boat we rented. They were very thorough and considerate. The facility and boat were both clean and we had zero issues whatsoever. This experience was the absolute best part of our trip to Savannah and we cannot recommend the use of their services enough. Please, please, please...if you are going to rent about or take a tour, start here!!
