The Barnes Foundation houses one of the finest collections of nineteenth- and twentieth-century French painting in the world. An extraordinary number of masterpieces by Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse provide a depth of work by these artists that is unavailable elsewhere. Wonderful collection organized in an unorthodox manner, following the wishes of the founder. We had a guided tour, which I would recommend for a first tour. Guide (Paulette) was very knowledgeable, friendly, and had a good sense of humor. I plan to return.

Like many others I was leery of the Barnes Collection being moved to their new site downtown. The history and charm, as well as the aesthetics of how the art was carefully arranged room by room, in the original building in Merion, would be lost...More

This is an amazing collection !!! I’ve never seen so many paintings from Renoir, Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso’s and Modigliani altogether and mixed with Tintoretto, El Greco and other old masters . If you are hungry, the Garden Restaurant serves very delicious and creative food and...More

Spent a lovely afternoon at the Barnes and I highly recommend this terrific museum. So many Renoirs in one place. I was thrilled! The museum staff were very friendly, the little cafe was perfect and outdoor spaces were soothing. Well done, Barnes staff!

This museum is incredible. How could one person have assembled so many impressionist paintings? The museum recommends advance purchase of timed tickets. However, on the day that we went, there were no crowds. The art works are arranged IAW Dr. Barnes' instructions and he placed...More

My wife and I are members. We treasure every visit, but we really enjoyed the special Renoir and Son exhibit today. The docent was great. Visit before the exhibit leaves in Sept. How can anyone beat the largest post-Impressionist collection in the world?

This was a "bucket list" visit. The Barnes Foundation is unlike any other art museum as paintings are arranged according to Dr. Barnes unique system meant to teach the viewer through this method. The number of gorgeous Impressionist paintings is extraordinary and the venue itself...More

DO visit the new Barnes Foundation while in Philadelphia for the Annual Pennsylvania Horticulture Society Flower show in early March. Having visited the old location in Merion many years ago, this is a refreshing modern space to view the collection. Don't miss the PHS Flower...More

This museum is so much more unique than any other art museum. I recommend coming here several times if you can as there is so much ground to cover. Loves coming here for some peace and quiet as well.
