Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse opened its doors in East Fairmount Park in 1899. Funded by Richard and Sarah Smith, the site was dedicated to the memory of their adult son, Stanfield. Smith’s beautiful, 24,000 square foot Playhouse was designed solely as a play space for children by one of Philadelphia’s most prominent late 19th century architects, James H. Windrim. The Playground is situated on its original historic landscape – 6 1/2 acres of open fields, wooded terrain, and sloped hills – and is home to the century old Ann Newman Giant Wooden Slide, a treasured play experience for generations of Philadelphia’s children, as well as other unique pieces of play equipment.Smith’s mission is to provide children 10 and under from diverse backgrounds with free and accessible one-of-a-kind play experiences that meet their physical, behavioral, and developmental needs.

Wow, what a great playground! So much for the kids to do and it kept their attention for almost 3 hours (ages 3 and 5). The outside is by far the best including all your playground favorites and a giant wooden slide that my kids...More

Took my toddler daughter to this place. It is beautiful and very great attraction for kids her age. We spent a lot of time outside and when became too hot we had great time inside.

A lot of activities for children under 7 but limited for those over 7. The large wooden slide was the best part of the park. The mansion was disappointing because it was for children under 5 for the most part.

This playground is adequate fun for kids 8 and under. My 10 year old was bored. The wooden slide is awesome. The play place has 3 floors. Different things on each level. You can go inside and stay cool on the really hot days. After...More

We are members of Smith, and love the playground areas. There is a ton of space and lots for the kids to do. Zero complaints in that department. The inside, especially the bathroom situation, needs work. There are 2 single stall bathrooms on the first...More

This is an excellent option for a secure and safe playground for your children, during the winter months, only the indoor is open, but it provided a great location for our kids to run off some of their steam. There are three floors, with different...More

Great place, off the beaten track, lots of space to spread out, explore, and play. A great playground with adjoining areas for younger and older kids, a large covered wooden slide, and a "mansion" to explore with different interest areas in unexpected places. Kids will...More

This was not at all what I was expecting. The playground actually consists of several play areas with a wide array of equipment and target age ranges. In addition to some typical equipment, Smith also features a large wooden slide, toy houses, saucer swings, ropes,...More

I would go when you can do the playhouse and playground. The play house is ok, but the playground is huge with some unique equipment.
