This was one of the most interesting and fascinating tours I’ve taken in Philadelphia. A modest $5 fee gets you into the famous Christ Church cemetery, the final resting place of many notable early American citizens. You may buy a map that details some of the famous people here, but for another $5, resident cemetery historian Bob will lead you on a tour and explain in great detail who is buried where, what role they played in our history. Bob was an amazing wealth of colonial time American history , as he talked about the thousands of people buried in the cemetery. He explained how the expression “debunked” came to be, and why there are 100s of pennies on Benjamin Franklin’s tomb, and the origin of our colonial flag. Betsy Ross? Nope.
Bob made the tour fun, interesting and was very respectful of all the great leaders who contributed to the birth of our nation, and those who served her up until the present. This is a little known attraction one should definitely see! Thanks Bob!

I wish we just walked like a minute more to see Franklin's grave through the fence; he and his wife are right up front. If you're really into it, there are 5 signers buried in there but most stones are so worn that you can't read anything.

We’ve been on 9 tours in our Boston-Philadelphia trip and this one was clearly the best. Bob connected the city with the past in an engaging and interesting way. Highly recommend - 2 adults and 2 teens

This is Benjamin Franklin's final place. Since it's just next and few steps from the Independence Mall then you can easily take a walk and experience.

We stopped in only briefly to visit Benjamin Franklin's gravesite. We were a bit surprised to have to pay to get in, but we respectfully did so, although I thought $5 was a bit steep to spend maybe 10 minutes paying our respects.

I had an amazing time there taking a tour with Bob! It was very informative, and he was such a funny and friendly person. The tour was definitely worth it.
The cemetery itself was also very beautiful and interesting, with five signers of the declaration, as well as several other important members of the revolution. I was excited to see the grave of Benjamin Rush, because I'm really interested in medical history, as well as the revolution.

I did the Death and Taxes tour with Bob as the tour guide. It was great! Bob was very nice and very knowledgeable. The tour was fun and informative. I learned a lot about Benjamin Franklin and about several of his friends who are also buried in the cemetery.

The burial ground where Benjamin Franklin is laid to rest along with some other important figures from American history. Whilst of historic significance I would not say this attraction was anything that memorable, hence my 'Average' rating.

Extremely informative and interesting tour- we received a lot of information and facts that we would have never gotten otherwise from a guide (Bob) that has worked there for many years.
Bob was extremely engaging and had lots of excellent stories about the cemetery and the many important Americans that are buried in it. An awesome overall experience and one of the coolest parts of our Philadelphia

Why is there an admission fee to go inside the Burial Ground?
Christ Church Burial Ground is a nonprofit historic site. Your small admission fee ($2 for adults and $1 for children) goes towards the upkeep of the grounds, the preservation of the gravestones, and keeping a staff of tour guides on-site 7 days a week to share the stories behind the famous Americans buried here!
Is Christ Church Burial Ground open during preservation work on the Franklin gravesite?
Yes. The Burial Ground is open during its normal tourism hours (10:00-4:00) each day (12:00-4:00 on Sunday). Visitors will not have full access to the Franklin gravesite until the preservation is completed, but they can look inside the work area and see our preservation team at work. Our guides are on staff to explain the entire preservation process.
