- NapiliRTampa, Florida274 contributionsWell Curated and Well DisplayedI thoroughly enjoyed this museum. I found the history portrayed in such a creative way that although I know quite a bit of history of this era, I was captivated by the way the curators brought the history alive with both the artifacts and the way in which the story of the American Revolution is portrayed. Don't bother with the cafe as it provides minimal food and beverages. That's too bad, as it could have been quite a creative way to continue the history as well as a good way for the museum to raise funds.Visited January 2023Written January 24, 2023
- EaglesFan27Reading, Pennsylvania631 contributionsLearned new thingsI had a very good time at the museum. Having learned about the war back in school, I learned a lot of new things and relearned things I had forgotten. They had a lot of nice displays and artifacts. I did not have time for the video, but spend a couple of hours here.Visited January 2023Written March 10, 2023
- Judy T12 contributionsDon't Miss ThisThis is a small museum with a huge impact. It is well planned and is a nice blend of interactive exhibits, reading and films. There were several well-behaved school groups visiting while I was there. The docents were very good at keeping the children engaged and interested in learning about history.Visited March 2023Written March 20, 2023
- Martin F3 contributionsA Must Visit MuseumThis is a must go to museum when in Philadelphia. The exhibits were excellent and the layout worked very well. The actor's presentation at George Washington's tent was a very good performance. I have recommended this museum to friends and they felt the same way.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 23, 2023
- Louis L7 contributionsMuch more to knowThis museum is a block or two further than the usual sights but I spent three and a half hours there. Even though we learn about this in school, there is much more to know. Did you know: the war lasted until 1783? George Washington was fighting for8 years? Benjamin Lincoln and Alexander Hamilton had key roles at Yorktown? That the Netherlands and Spain had declared war on England? The museum is chronologically laid out and you just follow the winding path through the multitude of exhibits. There are short videos in the theaters and a sound and light show about the Battle of Brandywine. There are stories about all of the many battles that the colonists lost. You come to realize how desperate it all was. Okay, you can see it all in less time than me but I enjoyed every minute that I was there.Visited April 2023Traveled soloWritten April 24, 2023
- vakamalua610 contributionsDon't Miss in Historic AreaA great museum to understand the full story of the American Revolution! We took the 1 hour "Core Exhibit" tour first with Lilly who was a very good guide at giving us an overview of the museum & the history of the revolution while answering all our questions. We then spent another 2 hours going back through the exhibits & watching the films. The information is well curated & presented. We especially appreciated the very important information about the Native American & Enslaved Persons who were used as pawns in this war grounded in economics.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 14, 2023
- Beverly R3 contributionsAmazing staff to help you understand the history behind the exhibitsThis museum is amazing they have staff who can explain to you. Everything about the exhibits of the history of our nation. The building is beautiful as well. I asked one of the staff how he knew so much about history and found out that he actually had a PhD in history. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I would say do not miss this museum if you’re going to visit Philadelphia.Visited July 2023Traveled with friendsWritten July 4, 2023
- ALLSLCSalt Lake City, Utah541 contributionsExcellent review of our historyLooking back, I wish I had paid more attention in history as a kid...but here I am, in my 50s and now I care. Found this gem and went towards the end of the day. Wish I had come a little earlier since I was alone and could leisurely read all the signs...it takes closer to 2.5-3 hours, but I got through in 2 by skimming towards the end since they were coming up on closing. Really interesting displays with audio and written accounts, artifacts and dioramas. Learned a lot and enjoyed the presentation. Seems very new, well put together. Because there is a lot of reading, ideally you hit it when there isn't a ton of people there you have to jockey around.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten September 30, 2023
- Charles SNorthamptonshire, United Kingdom1,044 contributionsImpressive MuseumThe Museum of the American Revolution is dedicated to telling the story of the American Revolution. The museum was opened in 2017 and is located at 101 South Third Street. The museum has a collection of several thousand objects including artwork and sculpture, textiles and weapons, manuscripts, and rare books all continuing relevance of the American Revolution. The museum is open on two levels to the public, the first floor includes a museum shop and café which opens onto the street. The first floor interior is around a skylit interior court and features a ticketing lobby, theatre and exhibition gallery. The second floor features galleries and a theatre. If interested in history then this is definitely worth a visit.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 2, 2023

Yes the viewer can smell to imagine what Boston Harbor smelled like after the Boston Tea Party. A portrait of King George in 3D that the visitor can touch. A short orientation film on the main floor reveals the biggest treasure here is George Washington's tent he used as a headquarters during battles. To preserve this precious artifact, it is shown in hourly presentations. Don't miss this!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 19, 2023

Came to the museum for a grad school alumni event. The staff were friendly and guided us through the museum to the event space and then allowed us to view one of the many exhibits. Can't wait to return with my son in the near future.

We went on Wed Nov 22, 2023. Not sure what to expeect, and going with family who are fairly hard to please. We all had a great time. We looked around a little, then came downstairs to view the Washington War Tent. Definitely a must see, as it's got a nice story about our first president. Then we finished viewing the upstairs exhibits, and I really enjoyed how they brought the days of the Revolution alive with stories, videos, artifacts and models. I was surprised to learn quite a few new facts about the Revolution. We spent about 2 hours there, and didn't even notice the time go by. I could spent some more time there, but we had another appointment and had to leave. This is one of the places which really makes history fun.
Tip: Take a picture of the program for the day at the bottom of the stairs, so you can refer to it later.

The museum is really well done. Traveled with myself and two friends who are all trained historians, we all felt it was visually appealing, informative, and honest. Displays are a bit busy at times and a lot to read, but the information is good, the exhibits are well thought out, and a narrative was created. We enjoyed it and would recommend for anyone visiting Philadelphia!

This museum is utterly fantastic! It's a very thoroughly-researched, well-organized museum on the American revolution, starting in the years leading up to the revolution and going well past the US Civil War (1860s). The exhibits are jam-packed with items that are well-curated; it's clear that they put a lot of thought into which items to put on display and how the exhibits should flow together. I really enjoyed the video on George Washington's tent. Even though there's a lot to see (we were here for several hours and I still didn't see everything), it didn't feel overwhelming. One of the better museums I've visited. The building itself is light and airy.

Such an excellent museum. We particularly appreciated all the films that you can see and how informative all the staff were. Also, your ticket allows you 2 days of admission which you could easily use.
All the displays are amazing and there is so much to read and see.

We saw the exhibit "Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphia." It was really fantastic. We learned so much about this important family in Philadelphia's history.

There are a few parking garages within walking distance. We parked at the below ground parking garage at the National Constitution Center and walked there via Betsy Ross House. We hit the City Tavern afterwards. Have fun.

Would this museum be interesting for a 7 year old?
Are there any interactive activities for that age group?

If your child enjoys history then yes. However there are few interactive activities. It is mostly artifacts with descriptions to read and learn about. There are lots of knowledgeable tour guides and some films. This is a museum not a play center.

We walked, did uber and used public transportation which were all easy. Those I would recommend. We saw lots of parking garages and there was some street parking. Don't know how much they cost though.

The best place to park is on 2nd Street. If you travel down Chestnut Street toward the Delaware River (no choice - one way) make a right on Chestnut Street. The parking garage is about mid-block across from the City Tavern. It's then about a 2 block walk to the museum.

Do I really need to buy a timed ticket ahead of time? I plan to visit on Sunday morning, but I'm not sure how many people are coming along so I don't want to buy tickets I don't need. Also why can you buy tickets for 9:30 if the museum opens at 10:00 am?
MrSaturn64
Philadelphia, PA349 contributions
Since it's on a weekend very early on, yes, I would absolutely get an advance ticket. You may not need it, but it's still better to have it than to need it.
As for the other people in the group, youse can figure that out yourselves.
As for the 9:30 thing, why the hell not?
