Walk up close to the petroglyphs at the Swelter Shelter from the Freemont culture 1000 years ago. Many other sites to visit and view. Some near and others far up the cliff face.
Instead of turning lift to go to the Querry Visitor Center, continue straight until you get to a sign with a picture of the petroglyph and the number 1. Park by the sign and walk to the mountain to see a good collection of petroglyphs....More
If you are on the Utah side of Dinosaur National Monument make sure you take a quick stop! It is still impressive that these photos lasted all these centuries!
We hiked up to the petroglyphs with our teenagers, and everyone loved it. There is some rather large petroglyphs, some very clear, and some you really have to look closely for. It was fun to discover them.
This is a pleasant easy walk through craggy landscape, where you can spot the Petroglyphs from the road/path. However, you can take easy hikes off of the path and get closer to them. This is really worth it, because you can then appreciate the scale...More

These are a great example of petroglyphs found within Dinosaur National Monument on the Utah side. They are easily seen from the road, but also accessible via a small, non strenuous hike.
The petroglyphs here are well done and easily viewed, except for the big lizard, but not as numerous as the ones just outside Moab, Utah. These are from the same time frame as the Moab items, but maybe more creative, with spirals, vases and flowers...More
