Definitely check the weather before driving the road, as others have stated, this road would be impassible when wet, or after a recent rain. We drove our Subaru Outback and found it to be adequate for the trip on a dry road. We drove in...More

Need high clearance, your VW Jetta will NOT make this road/trail. Lots of washboard, deep sand, rocky not gravely roads. If there is any rain avoid it! Tight turns, cattle at large. Great views though.

This road leads to a lot of great locations on the monument. From cabins to overlooks. It is tough drive when wet. The road has a lot of loose spots. The overlooks are awe inspiring. It would be an easy drive in the summer.

Great overlooks, Haystack is a must hike. NO PEOPLE... I mean nobody. Perfectly empty. 4WD with clearance is a must. Petroglyphs are worth seeing as well.

We've driven this road a number of times and made it a point to drive it once a month a couple years running. It's rough driving if there's snow, but otherwise it's a very good drive with some nice hikes along the way.
