The Rex Allen Museum (which also houses the Willcox Cowboy Hall of Fame) is really worth the visit. This was a real find... once again, planning a one hour visit, and soaked up all the cool cowboy stuff for 3+ hours. We are slowly learning, don’t plan for this kind of trek, just let it roll. Across Railroad Street from the museum is the burial spot of his beloved horse, Ko Ko. Rex’s ashes were spread there also. Next to the museum is the historic theatre where young Rex Sr. sang as a kid.
Almost equal to the Rex Allen display is a room dedicated to the area’s “everyday cowboys”, incredible portrait paintings that displayed the working man spirit... no Coca-Cola or Urban Cowboy in this bunch.
We got back to the camper and streamed “Colorado Sundown” and a couple other Rex Allen flicks. Surprise... he saved the day and (probably) got the girl.

I have driven through Wilcox, Arizona probably 50 to 100 times but never stopped except for gas. This time we drove a few blocks off of I-10 and went to The Rex Allen Museum. There were lots of pictures and movie posters as well as guitars and stage costumes on display. He was a popular star from the 1940's to the 1970's on the stage, radio, television and in movies. The museum was very interesting and across the street is a monument where the remains of Rex Allen and his famous horse were placed. Every year the town of Wilcox celebrates Rex Allen Days.

I had no idea who Rex Allen was although I've heard about Rex Allen Days in Willcox for years. This was the first time we visited Willcox, and stopped in to the museum. I assumed it was going to be a self guided tour where we would just walk around and read signs, but the docent said "Would you like a guided tour?" and we did. She walked us through the whole place and was very informative and excited to share all the information she knows.

My husband and I went on the recommendation of another couple. We found it very informative and the volunteer at the time was Lisa. She was very knowledgeable about Rex Allen. His songs were playing and she would let us know the name of the song. I found it interesting to see so many pictures of well known movie stars and western singers including Glenn Strange (GunSmoke bar tender and so much more). Lisa also gave suggestions of restaurants and other interesting sites.

This small museum is packed full of country music history and everything Rex Allen and Rex Allen Jr. From his early childhood years to his most famous singing and acting years, it's got a bit of it all. The movie posters alone could be in their own museum! There are some Nudie suits he wore in concerts and shows as well as his guitars and records. We knew little of Rex Allen's history before coming to the museum but when we left we felt like we knew him from childhood! There's a statue across the street in the little park, perfect opportunity for a picture with Rex! Wilcox is a tiny town with a big history!

My husband is such a fan of anything "Western", and in the 1990's, when we were visiting our daughter, who was attending Grad School in Tucson, she brought him here twice. I had never been here before. Rex Allen's movies were before our time, but his singing is timeless. What beautiful ballads with meaningful words! Before we left, we bought two CD's.

The small Museum is arranged neatly and in order. We loved the old movie posters, all the memorabilia, and the sound of his voice singing quietly in the background. The "caretaker" knew Rex Allen personally, and has the most interesting stories and information to pass on. We had already taken a walk through the tidy park across the street, where we had read all the plaques, and yet, this man provided us with more interesting information, and we went back to the park to check it out. The bronze statue of Rex Allen is the centerpiece of this park. It was created by sculptor Buck McCain, and dedicated in 1991.

Admission is $2.00 per person, and donations are always welcome. Lots of street parking in that area.

For remembering so little about Rex Allen, hubby and I both felt our visit here would be short. Not the case! Not only the well set up museum was well organized and clean, and the docent was very helpful, but it was nostalgic to trace memories back in the days of the singing cowboys. One of the rooms is full of marvelous paintings of hard-working courageous men in the area. An easy to read book was left to peruse, telling of their hardships. The inspiration of these men was definitely impressed and have given great pride to the citizens of Willcox. The BEST of what visitors should see/do in Willcox. Be sure to read the story of Rex's horse, and we were surprised to learn how many years Rex's voice was used in Disney films. A wonderful, humble, loving, caring gentleman. No wonder each year Willcox celebrates Rex Allen Days!!!!

This museum is a jewel. So many memories of the singing cowboy era to explore. If you are lucky enough to have Gail show you around your day will be complete. I encourage everyone to stop here if you are in the area or just make a special trip. Would hate to see this wonderful display ever disappear form lack of popularity.

What a hidden secret. We took my father-in-law here and he said it brought back a lot of memories from his childhood. The entrance has a gift shop and there is a $2 admission to the museum, which is a deal.

I had no idea how many movies Rex Allen was in. At the very back there is a Cowboy Hall of Fame with large photographs of cowboys. A collection of autographed movies addressed to Rex Allen from Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, Ronald Reagan and others. The actor that played Festis in Gunsmoke. Lots of original costumes from Rex's performing days.

A great trip down memory lane right on Railroad drive. Across the street is a bronze statue of Rex Allen and I read his horse KoKo is buried at his feet. I will return in October to attend Rex Allen Days. I hear his son, Rex Allen, Jr., comes to town too.
