The library is more than just a library and has art, books and even food items. We went as part of the ArtWalk, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The Galleries at Library Square is a can’t miss if you’re in the River Market district. Free admission, and frequently rotating art and history exhibits in a beautifully renovated historic building. There is a retail gallery featuring a wide array of art and crafts at all price points, made by local people. I always bring my out of town guests here - this place is a gem!

When we were there we had a nice docent who took us to the special exhibit from the Japanese internment in America. There were interesting artwork that were done by the people who were in the camp. They have a lovely gift shop and art display and I found the most beautiful handmade wooden handled letter opener.

I happened into this store/gallery last week when I visited the Butler Center to see the current exhibit of award winning pastel art. Beautiful pottery at reasonable prices, unusual and well-selected local art and jewelry. Well worth your time!

The retail area is very nice, but I come here for the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies (which is upstairs). This place is amazing if you love history, or family history, or books....When your family is primarily from the South and you’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest for years, it’s wonderful to go here and have so many amazing records/details/history at your fingertips! The librarian’s are all very helpful and are willing to help you find the records you need. Love this place!

Located on a corner of President Clinton Blvd. near the Little Rock Library, the Butler Center is the library's archives of Arkansas history, and its ground floor is dedicated to exhibits of Arkansas art and culture and a large gift shop featuring arts and crafts by Arkansas makers. Paintings, photography, jewelry, woodwork, cards, ceramics, sculptures, and more are on view, with a constantly changing panorama of beautiful, colorful, humorous, and thought-provoking items. There's a reception on Art Night, the first Friday of each month, with live music, drinks and nibbles, and new art exhibits, when the Center is open until 9:00 p.m.

I love shopping and supporting local. This gallery sells items from Arkansas artists only. They have something in every price range. It is a great place to do your gift shopping!

I went to view the artwork from Rohwer camp, one of 10 internment camps that housed Japanese American during WW2. I was familiar with the story, as my own family was interned in Arkansas. The special exhibit of the artworks collected by former art teacher Miss Jamison and given to former McGehee mayor Ms Rosalie Gould were both heartwarming and bittersweet. It really tells the story of what people did to while away time while the rest of the country was engaged in war. Some of the art pieces created from swamp cypress reminded me of my own family's mementos of less happy times. I was happy to meet the curator who seemed dedicated to preserving this less than pleasant chapter in Arkansas history. Another current exhibit was a photographic series of the Cummins prison farm, which is another trying story of abuse. The photos and stories are haunting. I went away impressed that Arkansas was willing to remember these parts of their history. The gift shop contained many beautiful hand made artworks, sculptures and other items such as housewares, jewelry, textiles. It is rare to find a community of so many talented artisans!

My mother wanted to visit the Butler Center to look up some genealogy information. I was amazed at how much material was available and even more impressed with the lady who helped us. She treated us like she had all the time in the world and was very helpful. The parking lot is a paid lot but they validate your ticket inside.
My only "negative" was getting there. There weren't many signs to help us get there.
