Great Museum, but something is missing from it.
The whole museum complex is gigantic, in terms of pure size and amount of exhibitions they have inside. Dinosaurs, planetariums and minerals and much more. To see everything you need to be prepared for 3-4h walk. Unfortunately, there are some cons. Most of the exhibitions are just dioramas with fake animals and plants in them, also the line to get in is sooooooo long. I recommend being next to the entrance like 1h BEFORE opening, otherwise, you will be forced to wait 2-3h minimum to get in.

    Get there REALLY early?
If you plan on doing nothing else all day then go because it takes forever to get around this huge place. I'm sure you can skip a lot of it if you can get away with it. The staffing was very bad, not enough to deal with the hordes of people queing despite booking a 1pm slot we still didn't get in till 2pm and waiting with young children is not acceptable. They need to sort this out desperately.

    Brilliant museum
We spent over 6 hours in the museum and still only saw probably less than 20% of the exhibits. I think you'd need a week in there to see everything! So much to see and loads of information on the items and their history. Benches in many areas which was great to have a sit down. Food and drink was crazy expensive but good. Air con throughout the building. Shops on every floor for a massive selection of souvenirs. We really enjoyed our visit.

    Great experience!
When we got there, there was a huge line around the block all the way to the subway entrance. You can buy tickets online, and just go around to the back entrance, where (for us) there was no line at all. Great exhibits!!! Museum guard told us to start from the top floor and work are way down ... great advice!! Large gift shop, with smaller ones spread out through the museum. Would definitely recommend,

    So natural
The AMNH is one of the awesome museums in NYC. The great thing about it is that it is actually linked underground to the metro station so you won't miss it at all. I have been dying to come here as i am a Night at the Museum fan. However, it kind of disappoint as I did not really see the exhibits that I saw in the movie. Nonetheless, what really amazes me are the mannequins at the museum. They look so real. Every exhibit comes with a whole lot of detail about the people and animals of the world. The problem i have with this place is it is incredibly difficult to navigate around. Between MET and AMNH, I feel like MET is better run and with better food options. The food option at AMNH is pretty dismal and expensive. I spent 5 hours here, you really got to dedicate an entire day otherwise it's just really touch n go.

The Best Museum Without A Doubt!
The Natural History Museum is by far one of my favourite museums! I was a bit confused about whether the tickets were free or not? We did end up paying about $28 but we saw signs at the front saying that it was free but something about donations. I have just googled it and it’s keeps saying it’s free so I am still confused. Regardless of the cost this museum is brilliant! If you go make sure you have quite a few hours or even a full day to get round everything! It really is stunning! I was a bit stumped that we had paid to go in and there were further charges if you wanted to go in certain exhibits.

    Excellent museum
Excellent selection of things to look at, we’ll worth the money. Didn’t take too long to gain access since we bought tickets on the phone (with a time slot) during our walk in. Don’t eat at the cafe if you can help it, the food is a rip off and the staff there aren’t very helpful. They did have a vegetarian sandwich but it was too expensive for what it was.

Plan out and map out what you want to see and make sure you set side at least 3-4 hours for your visit to see more
The main entrance was a block over from what I was thinking. It is $39 for each adult for every possible part of the museum experience. It may be worth it if you have several hours to spend here. Otherwise it's $28 per adult for the basic entry. The Big Bang theory was interesting. The African animals was also nice to look at the displays. The American animals was cool to see some of the animals up close. Haven't ever seen a mountain goat or any bears, not that I need to see any bears up close at all. The layout of this museum is all over the place, it is was hard to get a good flow and see as much as possible. The national history museum is bigger and the exhibits are better if you map out your visit. We likely missed some areas as we walked along our own path with no plan.

All great, except the basement caffeteria
We just loved the gem and mineral wing. Hadn't been here in decades, and this exhibit is breath taking. Also enjoyed the beautiful panoramas and of course the dinos. Only thing: the basement cafeteria was HORRIBLE. Not much selection, poor quality, and high prices. But the museum itself is a must see for anyone!

This museum is amazing. Buy tickets in advance, and arrive well before opening to get in line. My favorite exhibits were the Gems and the Dinosaurs. I was very sad that parts of the museum were closed. Also, there were way too many student groups and unfortunately they were loud and poorly behaved. I was a bit ashamed to think this was the face of the American student that all of the foreign visitors were seeing. The problems were there were too many groups, and the adult chaperones and museum security did absolutely nothing to curb the yelling, running, and general bad behavior. Realistically most of the kids were fine, but probably at least 20% were not well behaved, and it ruined it. It was far from a learning-conducive environment. I hope to go again, and would like to go like the first week of the school year when hopefully there are less groups.

We had a fantastic time spending about 3 hours looking around the museum on a Monday morning. We had a pre booked entry and entered through the northern entrance. Small queue at 10.00, but think our entrance was used for school groups, so might get busy at times. In fact, whilst we were exploring the museum, there were lots of small groups of school kids, so occasionally needed to wait for them to move on to view a display, but good to see enthusiastic kids! The displays are awesome!

The museum itself is brilliant and HUGE, loads to do. We did a free tour with Victoria Boyt, one of the volunteers, and would highly recommend. Over a two hour tour she showed us a range of exhibits from mammals to Native American culture to dinosaurs and more. One of the highlights of our trip to NYC.

As with any great museum it can be hard to know what to see in the time you spend there, this one is so big that it's worth picking up a map and working out your priorities. My priority was seeing the Dino's which are on the 4th floor.

They had some great models and skeletons on show, always fascinating to see the scale of these creatures in person.

I also walked through some of the exhibits on the first floor, like the American forests and farmland as well as the underwater room with the massive whale. It feels like the sort of museum that goes into great detail into a lot of things and if you're learning about what they have on show or have a desire to learn more it is fantastic.

There's also a nice round room with views of Central Park.

What an unbelievable museum. Its huge and has information for all interested. Lovely friendly people working here too, especially the lady and gentleman at the insect area. So interesting for my 10 year old too. We could spend easily two days here.
A must visit if you love animals, nature, space etc…

We had to visit just to show our 10yr old the things linked to the night at the museum film.

The visit was included as part of the city pass, I hadn’t realised there was a selectable experience (choice from four) included. However we were in a hurry so didn’t use it.

The museum is huge but we ran round in 45 minutes to find…

- Dum dum
- Dexter
- Rex
- Anything else related to the film

If you’re also also and killing time you’re just by Shakespeare’s garden and the Swiss Cottage in Central Park

Visited as a family of 4. Entered at 10am and it was fairly quiet on arrival. It got busier and busier as the day went on.
Museum pieces were all good and interesting. One thing that could have been better was the map and layout. A lot of people looked lost and didn’t know where to go. It would have been better if the map had a guide advising visitors the best route to take.

Place is so large if you really want to see everything you will need to spend several full days there. Tons to look at. Definitely wish we had more time to spend there. Will definitely return next time we visit New York again. But a bit crowded tho
