Chinatown
About
In the heart of Lower Manhattan is this large Chinese enclave that is New York City's Chinatown. Here, you'll find a melting pot of Asian cultures—traditional dim sum, grocery stores, noodle houses, souvenir stalls, and bubble tea shops, plus modern concepts like cool speakeasies and bars. You can also head to Columbus Park to see locals practicing tai chi, playing chess, and going about their days. Take a guided tour of the area to learn more about Chinatown’s rich history, which often includes other nearby iconic districts like Little Italy and SoHo. – Tripadvisor

Neighborhood: Chinatown
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.

    Nice area
This was my first time to this area. Quite close to City Hall and downtown. Seems like there are some good restaurants here and most cater towards locals. Lots of shops selling cheap crap too. And some nice markets but also lots of people selling fakes. Worth the time to walk through.

    A Brief Visit
Chinatown in New York City is very much like Chinatown in London or Toronto. There are plenty of restaurants to get something to eat as well as shops to buy Chinese souvenirs or quirky gifts. It's nice to get an idea of how different cultures live and what's on offer.

    Worth a visit
Chinatown is quite large and has taken over quite a few blocks that had been Little Italy. There are many shops, small specialty grocery stores and restaurants. We took a walking tour through Chinatown and our tour guide said this is the cheapest place to buy NYC souvenirs. This is worth a visit and a stop for lunch or dinner.

    Disappointing
We were with a group and decided to explore the area. I was excited until we started walking around. I was extremely underwhelmed. I'm not sure what we I expected, but I felt like it was a big waste of time. Had I known Little Italy was just around the corner, we would have gone there instead. If you happen to be nearby a quick little walk through is sufficient, but I wouldn't suggest purposely taking the time to specifically travel there.

Really nice to walk through. Shops and restaurants, with remarkably good prices compared to other areas in Manhattan.

After getting of the train at Canal street, it was our mission to find a good dim sum restaurant. We were met by street vendors with $1 strawberry containers, lychee fruit and coconuts. We kept walking towards Mott Street and found better chinatown shops and restaurants. If you walk too far you hit Little Italy. We found a nice store with fake Louis Vuitton, which we didn’t buy, but they had cheap I ❤️NY tshirts and asian hair pins. We looked for asian vendors versus indian vendors. We finally found a dim sum restaurant filled with chinese people. It was a sign that it was good, which it was. I don’t understand Chinese, but the ladies who came by with carts just show you what they have and you just take what you like. We like their flat rice noodles with shrimp and beef, their char siu bao and fried taro balls were good. The spring rolls and egg tarts were pretty good too! For $50, it was the cheapest meal we’ve had in new york for four people. It was an interesting day!

Very interesting to have a walk in Chinatown, explore the markets, street vendors, restaurants, tea rooms ....

Be prepared to stand also the smell of the fish on display at the street vendors' stalls 🙊

Friendly people, safe neighborhood...

Great for picture taking and discovering "terra incognita" 🤩

There is a little China here. This district has everything cheaper, and if your time is flexible, you can explore Chinese cuisines.

With over 30years, working, travelling and living in Asia, I was so disappointed.
8y in Hong-Kong, so we love chines food stores people etc. This was sad story. Not worth the visit, unless you are looking for something very special from their pharmacy.

It's fascinating to visit Chinatown in NYC. Authentic neighborhood with restaurants, tea shops, stores and small markets or sidewalk vendors selling fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and an assortment of items. You will encounter some interesting smells. The area seemed a bit gritty but certainly no issues during the daytime. Not sure about at night.

Absolutely awful. Would never go back. Was comparing to London Chinatown which is fantastic, very clean, with excellent restaurants. Streets were filthy, restaurants similar. Eventually found a place, which was so busy, they wanted us out as soon as we had finished our food. Would suggest you don’t bother visiting this area. There are so many great areas and restaurants. Try the Asian restaurants in the Hell’s Kitchen district - much better!
