The views were amazing. The breeze, wonderful. Even the people were friendly. Will go again! Saw many seals. Even got a pic with one!

Visiting SD for the day, we walked from around the Intercontinental down to the convention center along the water. Lots of vendors in the park near the Embarcadero, and more along the pathway past the shops all the way to the convention center. Nice views along the harbor across to Coronado, lots of boat activity and walkers of all shapes, sizes, and ages

This is a lovely walk along the shore to the Seaport village.
There are several market stalls along the way and other shops and restaurants as well.

We really enjoyed the Seaport village when we visited San Diego. We stopped there on our bus tour and got off for an hour so we could walk around. It is definitely worth taking time to look around this beautiful area.

I have always enjoyed going to Seaport village while in SD. The only challenge here is the parking, there is no free parking but we have to pay and park, and it's bit expensive. Nice walk next to the ocean, good restaurants, nice cookie shop, coffee shop etc., A wonderful place overall and a must visit place.

We walked the boardwalk after visiting Midway Aircraft Carrier. Went a day early for a cruise out of San Diego to visit the area. It was December and the weather was cool, but very nice. we walked the boardwalk in late afternoon. Many sites to see including the Kissing Statue, quaint (but expensive) shops and restaurants. We also encounter some homeless people pan handling and or living on the boardwalk

It was our last day in San Diego and we didn't have anything specific planned so we went here. It's a nice shopping area right on the water. It was a Saturday, so there were lots of vendors set up on the sidewalk between the village and the USS Midway. Seaport village has an interesting variety of shops an places to eat. Would have stayed for dinner and sunset if we had more time.

Stroll along and admire all the boats and ships, and tour the USS Midway Museum. Great location. Go visit Little Italy afterwards, a few blocks away.

San Diego airport was noise polluted. Greyhound terminal area had lots of homeless looking guys. I hated this walk as it reflected on the shabbiest of SD.

We love spending time in this area each time we visit San Diego. Along the bay is a beautiful walk and there is much to do. We have taken the ferry at Broadway Pier across the bay to Coronado, visited the USS Midway museum, walked through the shops at Seaport Village, and had dinner at Brigantine Portside Pier where we had a table outside with a view of the incredible sunset. The Sea of India is gorgeous at night with all of the lights. Highly recommend!

How long is it

It's as long as you want as there are seats and eateries all around. . We walked from where the trolley bus dropped us off all the way to the park at the far end but there was more we could have done - all the way to the train station I think.

Tough to answer such a general question. It truly depends on what you like. Also the purpose of the visit may predetermine the locale. Generally speaking you cannot go wrong with Glasslamp district hotels. You will be where action is and close to everything. We stayed in former St James hotel - an-oldie-goldie - now a Ramada. The waterfront hotels are more expensive but the view is great.
Is it okay to do a drive around San Diego bay? Wondering about traffic, time, beach areas, etc.

So sorry for the delay in responding, family illness. It is. It too bad getting around; like many other cities it has its busy moments but there is a lot to see and while we did not go to the beach. We did hear how beautiful it was. It is very easy to drive to one area of interest, park and walk around.

No maps required. Just go to the bay and walk along the side of it and you will see it all
