The upper river, Ponca area can be very congested in spring. The middle River, Pruitt, Hasty, carver, Woolum are less spectacular but you can often enjoy it without a crowd. Nice center at Tyler Bend near Marshall.

I grew up in the area of Buffalo River and would often go there. I really miss the area. Little Switzerland was a favorite stopping spot before heading to the river.

My folks owned property on the Buffalo. Our kids fished, canoed, and played at the river. We had not been back for several years. Many improvements have been made but all have been done without altering the natural setting.

I highly recommend getting really good directions. I had a HORRIBLE time finding the Visitor Center. It's a lovely area but it was completely frustrating. The attraction is definitely the land and the river not the visitor center. Allow plenty of time to explore the...More

This is a gorgeous river great for canoeing and Kayaking. Offers many levels of experience depending on water levels and where you put in at. A must for any outdoorsman!

Buffalo river doesn't overwhelm you with grandiosity, it steals your heart a little at a time. Camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and more and so much easier to get to than the big one in AZ. This is a place to wander, discover and flow...More

Made a recent trip to Buffalo Point and Rush river accesses on the Buffalo river. The access at Rush had a nice size gravel bar, couple of picnic tables and a vault toilet up from the river. Buffalo Point had a large campground, real bathrooms/showers,...More

We had the best time at the Buffalo River. We rented canoes and kayaks and canoed from the 14 mile bridge to Rush. The water level was a little over 2.8 and it was perfect. We never had to drag our canoes. Our kids fished...More

If you blink you might miss this hidden gem. There are several great spots to visit the Buffalo river but this year we chose to go to Buffalo National River Park. The scenery surrounding it and driving into it is beautiful. Lot's of mountains and...More

Lost Valley was beautiful, but no water there during the summer. Also not always an easy hike - lots of steps. Swimming at Pruitt's Landing was nice - almost no current and warm water. Wear water shoes due to the rocks.

You can do it yourself or through canoe rental. Most rental prefer reservations because it is hard to predict otherwise.

Lots of places. Go online and look up Buffalo River Outfitters or Wild Bills - it really depends on what the river level is. The prettiest floats are Ponca to the Pruitt area - but it's sometimes low in the summer since that... More
