A big, open expanse of grass, walking paths, and a beach right on the shore of the harbor. The castle has tours throughout the day, and there is room to spread out and watch the boats set out to sea or play games on the...More

Great place to come with small kids to enjoy playground, watch ships, fly a kite, have a picnic, take tour of the fort, walk on the beach. Downside is the run down public restroom, a nightmare if you have small children.

Nice place to take a break. Walk in the sand and water or up the hill to see Fort independence or let the little ones play on the playground. Several statues to look at. Or get in some exercise or have a picnic. Multipurpose outdoor...More

It was colder when we went and they were doing extensive construction on the inside of Fort Independence so we didn’t get to tour the inside because of that and the weather. Still a beautiful walk, awesome structure. Big parking lot and easy to get...More

I have been loving Castle Island for over 30 years! It isn’t really an island. It is connected to “Southie” by a causeway, so you can drive right up to the front door of Sullivan’s, the best and most reasonable fried clams and lobster rolls...More

First we ate at Sullivans-the owner took our order and was super funny and friendly. The crab cake sandwich was the best i have ever eaten, in Boston and in other states! There are pictures of the evolution of Sullivans on the wall. The Fort...More

The park, beach area and grounds are always open. The fort itself has seasonal hours.

It's always open to walk there. The restaurant (Sullivan's) is seasonal, usually closed December to March or so. Sometimes they lock the close in parking gate at night, but there's plenty of places to park nearby.
