The value of going the extra mile to visit this site is the perspective it gives as to the size of what happened at Antietam Creek; that the battle lines stretched 10 miles - 10 miles - and that there were 115,00 to 120,000 soldiers...More

It is interesting to know that Robert E. Lee had his headquarters here for the Battle of Antietam, but there really isn't much to see at this location. Be sure to tour the battlefield, though. That is worth your time if you have interest at...More

Gen. Robert E. Lee's Headquarters Monument bears evidence to Lee's 1862 visit. Do visit when touring Antietam.

It is a rather humble historic monument marking the general Lee's headquarters. It is not a "must visit" area but should be a destination for those more deeply interested in Civil War history.

Off the side of the road among a grove of oak trees. Gives you perspective as to where the generals were located during the battle.

Head west out of Sharpsburg and on your right side just outside of town there is a small park. This is the site of Gen. Lee's headquarters. The only thing in the park is the Stone marker, but it was quiet and would make a...More

You won't find this monument within the grounds of Antietam Battlefield Park. It's down the road in a field (as are a number of other historic spots/sites, actually). It's worth a visit, though. It was from this place that Robert E. Lee commanded his troops...More

This isn't on the Antietam National Battlefield but is down the way a bit. However, its a notable location full of history and is worth checking out for anyone who is a history buff or Civil War buff or just enjoys seeing all of the...More
