This bar is in one of the few buildings that survived the fires that began with the 1906 earthquake. It hasn’t changed much, which is just the way we like it. It is a friendly bar filled with regulars. A rare setting in San Francisco...More

If you are looking for a fun and affordable night out in San Francisco head over to the Saloon, one of the city's oldest historic bars, dating from the 1860s. Having survived city fires, earthquakes and a bordello upstairs over its long tenure, it still...More

This bar was part of the walking tour, as it was right at one end of Jack Kerouac Alley. It turns out to be the oldest bar in San Francisco because it was one of the only structures to survive the earthquake and fires during...More

Old school, crowded, Blues Bar. Great vibes. A for sure not to miss spot with real people in SF. Just outside of North Beach.

Wow! I was in search for a cold drink and a bathroom break one block off popular Columbus St in hopes to find something a little more interesting and we totally hit the jackpot with this place. I follow my ears to the music and...More

Grungy , stale, and glorious! Filled with a mix of bohemian characters. Love the atmosphere. Live music was spectacular and premium drinks are $6. This should be part of any visit to SF.

It's more than a dive bar - it's one of the only places in SF that always has live music at 5pm! The bands are always terrific, the second show starts at 9 or 9:30. There is generally a cover charge for the second show...More

The music was very good. Band was a group of veteran musicians who know their craft. Beer was inexpensive and the barkeep was friendly and efficient. The bar itself is smorgasbord of people, noises and sights. This is not for the faint of heart...but enjoyable...More

The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds
of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian
ristorante come together to create the charming
neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds
for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North
Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always
suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in
the city exude as much European charm and style.

Sorry, we were staying at the Grant Hotel on Bush Street. I do not know of any hotels. It is in the area called North Beach, a great area with unique shops and restaurants.

Sometimes on weekend nights, I believe it was $5 but during the day and weekdays there didn't seem to be.
