Its a convenient place for bus or taxi journeys, and has facilities such as toilets, cafes and a few explanations and demonstrations for kids to fiddle with about how suspension bridges work etc.

However, it is also the most crowded way of getting a view of the bridge. I'd suggest walking off a few minutes on the path down to the Warming Hut. half way down you arguably get a better view but with far fewer people. You also get a great view from the pier by the Warming Hut.

The Golden Gate Welcome Centre is more of a souvenir shop than an informational centre about the Golden Gate Bridge, but there are a few displays around the place with some interesting facts. Outside the centre, there are a few more informational displays and there is a viewpoint nearby, that makes the visit there worthwhile.

Good place to get your National Park passport stamp (near the front of the store). Nice gifts, mugs, Christmas ornaments, magnets, clothing, etc.

Restrooms (Toilets/bathrooms/WCs/loos) aren't actually inside the Welcome Center, they're a short walk across the way. Typical long wait for women when I was there.

Took a bus from San Francisco, easy to use and return just as easy.

The welcome centre has a gift shop and lots of information on the building of the bridge. Very interesting visit.

The round shaped cafe a few steps away is surprisingly good, excellent mint tea.

We had great weather the day we went so managed to get great photos.

The perfect souvenir from San Francisco, there is a gorgeous children’s book called ‘San Francisco, baby’. It’s so much fun to read and would make a perfect gift for a little person.

We stopped here on our way into SF. Very limited parking. Great views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and a few walking trails as well. Bathrooms are also available. LocTed in the South side of the GG Bridge off of 101.

A bus stops just outside of here from the city centre. It is primarily a gift shop but it does have some facts written on the walls about the making of the bridge as well as some boards outside.

You don't have the best views here, but it's a good start for a walk over the bridge. If you return the same way you're walking at least for 2, 3 hours - on the other side there is a nice viewpoint as well. They have good coffee in the restaurant. You can reach the Welcome Center by public transport. A coastal trail in southern direction brings you to Marshall Beach and Baker Beach. All in all a nice day trip alltogether.

And a,good place to stop, if you want to go visiting officiously.

Well, they also seemed to have the only public restrooms for a mile around, and definitely you might want to stop by before or after climbing the bridge. The restrooms are opposite the Welcome centre.

Tip. For heading back to the SF city, you should cross under the road to the tola station on the other side. That's the place for regular buses (about $5) to the city. Though there is a bus stop in the parking lot of the Welcome Centre, I don't know how regularly those buses run: I didn't see any in two days of visiting the GGB.

Limited parking at the center but plenty in other lots. The visitor center is nice and informative. There is also a very extensive gift shop. I highly recommend this
