We drove through the area and enjoyed views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay. There is an active military base there and many historical sites. It is worth a visit.Visited May 2023Written June 2, 2023

There is so much to look at and visit - beaches, picnic areas, trails and exhibitions. Also plenty of eateries. It was a very pleasant surprise. The forest was fun and we walked through what used to be army barracks. Well worth the trip if you enjoy walking. Beautiful neighborhood, great places to eat, lots of ways to get exercise, and see beautiful structures. Has the Palace of fine Arts, casual and fine dining, great picture spots.

We had an amazing lunch at the out-of-the-way RX Café then drive to the bridge viewing area. It was nice to be cold in August, but we weren’t dressed for it and didn’t stay long.

Very cool place to just walk around. Surrounded by history, views and the water. Parking is a little tough (just like everywhere else in the city). Glad we went.

During my law school days, The Presidio was a busy military installation so I didn't get a chance to visit unless I was over at Liverpool Lil's nearby for some food and drink.
On this trip, I decided to have a look at this unique slice of history on my way to Crissy Field by foot.
There are many buildings that date to the early 20th century and before, including the old base hospital, with its imposing historical weaponry displayed on the front lawn.
The Presidio Trail is splendidly restored and planted with native species. Everything eas in bloom on a fine (if semi-foggy, typically SF) day.
I'm hoping to return, and perhaps stay on site next time.
The imposing cemetery (star of films, TV and videos) can be seen, its hilltop site affords those honored to be rest there a beautiful eternal view.
A place worth a visit.

My husband was stationed at the Presidio upon returning from Vietnam. He served as an MP and participated in many funerals of soldiers who didn't make it back alive. We want to make a trip to the Presidio in the fall. Are there resonable hotels close by?

The Best Western in Corte Madera is very reasonable, located just right from the city. Driving will give you access to the main post, and the ocean side by Sausalito. The old MP Barracks are still there. I served in the 504th MP Battalion, 402nd MP company. I also served on some of those funeral details in 1972-74. I am drawn back ther nearly every year
