    Special exhibits really ARE special!
Love the free parking in the area on Sundays: come early to snag an all-day space. It's beautiful approaching the space, and once inside, it's airy and welcoming. Plenty of spaces to sit and pause, plenty to browse in the shops when you're done. We've been for many exhibits, but the Egyptian one was just stunning. It's always a challenge when there are lots of people, but the best perk is that you can apply your ticket price to a membership. For educators, that means you might have a year's membership for super cheap! It's well worth the visit no matter what time of year.

Wonderful museum to host large exhibitions. Great collections
I had been to the de Young Museum for over 30+ years. It’s been completely changed into a modern building with exceptional architectural lines. I came to see the Ansel Adams photography exhibition and it was only a satisfying experience.

    Museum focused on American Art
This Modern Museum has a rather drab appearance in a pleasing section of Golden Gate Park. The longitudinal galleries display interesting collections of American and primitive art works. Well worth a visit

Art & culture at Golden Gate Park
As far as fine art museums go, de Young is pretty nice. It's quite large and the cafe serves up some delicious food. My husband and I were here on a rainy Friday. We were going back and forth between de Young and the Academy of Sciences across the way. I had it in my mind to also visit the Legion of Honor too with our admission ticket/sticker but alas, the Legion is a further ways away and we came via bus. What I did notice that there was less seating than I was used to in the galleries, perhaps they don't want people just sitting there to look at the art for long periods of time? They did have seating in the hallways overlooking the garden below. I guess I was okay with that. I enjoyed the turn of the century paintings and portraiture on display along with a marble statue or two. If you're looking to level up on some art and culture, go check out the de Young while visiting San Francisco.

Unfortunately, I was unable to go to my event because I was sick. That wasn't TripAdvisor's fault. The problem occurred when I tried to cancel my event. I was able to do that up to 24 hours before the event. However, because I had bought the tickets as a guest (I didn't realize that I had an account) TripAdvisor did not have a way for me to cancel. I tried going through the Museum but they did not recognize either of the confirmation numbers that were provided. If I had signed in prior to purchasing the tickets presumably, I would have been able to cancel through my account. I say presumably because there is no way for me to know whether that's true. However, regardless of how I made the purchase, I should have had some way to cancel. Not a whole lot of money but it ended up being wasted none the less. So, No, it was not a good experience.

This museum is well organizxed and tryhing to position itself as a private museum with its own curating philoshphy. However, the exhibitions are not rich enough to attract general travlers comparing thouse of other big museums in big cities. If you are a visitor and do not have much time to spend at two museums, I recommend to visit the SFMOMA.

I hate there because the security guard standing at lobby. When I wear backpack entering to admission desk. A black man is a security guard say something loud to my direction, I didn't aware he is talking to me. He said something again and looking at me, I knew this time he is talking to me but I didn't get what he is saying. Suddenly, he shout " off!" loudly, I was scared of him. I walk towards him, I tried to understand what he said. Finally, I get it I need to put down the backpack under my waist.

I was tourist from Asian, my English is not as good as American. If I didn't get your meaning, you have to be patient or use body language to make your guests to understand but not shouting makes every people looking at me. Also, the word "OFF" is very impolite wording.

Actually, at that time, there is lobby area, I didn't understand why need to put down the backpack under waist. The security guard should remind guest in front of each exhibits room, not lobby area.

The security guard also not telling me there is a free storage to keep my backpack. Is it not your job? But I thanks the sweet lady sitting on admission desk telling me that.

The Kehinde Wiley exhibit was astonishing. I knew his portraits it not the sculpture or paintings of this scale. I told my SF family, who are very aware of SF museums and especially yours that if they only went to one more exhibit in all of 2023, this is the one to see. It was a revelation to me.

The ticket price was a great value. The Ansel Adams photos alone was an awesome exhibit. The flower arrangement exhibition with the art made the experience interesting.

Used free audio provided at bottom of stairs to exhibit.Highly recommend using these. I was going specifically for this exhibit, but did visit other galleries in the museum and easily filled the afternoon with the offerings.
Highly recommend seeing the Wiley exhibit .
Also enjoyed sculpture garden off café during lunch.
